I don't think we can run the ball because we never really try to not even on 1st down.

I'm not an Air Raid or Spread fan. But it's a lot better than watching Cut's run up the middle the first two plays than ask Eli to throw for a first down on 3rd and 10 or 12.
But remember Luke trained under Cut. So watch out if he gets this job permanently.

One of the main reasons the running game is so inefficient is because Freeze refused to recruit RBs. He was adamant about only recruiting small scat backs who have break away speed and generally did not put much emphasis on big, bruising RBs. Now this philosophy might work in high school, but it will not work in the SEC, as is evident from the severe lack of a running game during his tenure as coach.
Also, Freeze also allowed a RB to dictate policy and say he would commit to Ole Miss if he was the only RB recruited for the class. This same RB has been continually injured and has not contributed to the positive aspects of a running game. As a result only one RB was recruited in the class and now the RB position extremely lacks depth and talent.
Longo will be learning on the job and soon understand the strengths of SEC teams. SEC football is vastly different from Division 2 football and weekly opponents are much stronger than Southland Conference teams. If an offense cannot convert or score points with an uptempo game plan, then the defense has no time to rest and is prone to both injury in addition to giving up points.

Catfish that isn't accurate regarding RB's. We have recruited the big bruiser backs hard every year. We only settled for scat backs because that is all that was left. Guys like Cam Akers and Bo Scarbrough would have been game changers to name just a couple we were in on to the very end.
Unfortunately outside of Deuce and possibly Brandon Bolden we haven't had any big bruiser backs that were any good over the years when we had them. We have discussed previously how other teams always seem to stockpile big running backs and we can't sign one...
But we are paying for players. Lol.
If that were the case we should have bought 5 or more LB's and RB's. At least then we could have said it was worth the trouble.
