The women’s basketball team took a step backward this year — 1-15 in SEC play, and 11-18 overall. Meanwhile his in-state counterpart has built a legitimate national title contender.

I sure hope so but I doubt there is any pressure at all. That program had an opportunity to do great things with Carol Ross and we screwed the pooch on that one. Now the women's program is even less desirable than the men's and with even less support. If that is possible.
Here is how bad it is: I found out today that one of my good friend's daughter is on the team. She was a juco all everything for two years and her Mom played for Chancellor is the glory years. Her Mom was also an asst for Ross as well as a former teammate of hers. This kid was a star in HS and in juco and hasn't seen the floor. Suffice it to say it hasn't won any support here locally sitting players that are better than whats on the court. I read a very little bit of chatter on TOS that suggested Insell was playing kids due to promises he made to them to get them to sign while better players sat. I honestly don't know. Whatever he's doing isn't working and that is painfully obvious.
If I had to venture a guess this upcoming debacle known as replacing AK will serve as a harbinger of what is to come if they move on from Insell.

Whatever happened with Carol Ross was a major downfall to the Ole Miss Women's Basketball Program. As good as Ole Miss is with contracts, Insell will probably get a few million if he loses his job!!!

We'll see if Bjork is serious about competing in all sports. The Insell experiment has't worked and it's time to turn him lose.

What did happen with Carol Ross?

I'm not sure what caused her to resign at Ole Miss. The story being pushed was that she was retiring. But, I do remember that she went WNBA for several years. Not sure what she's doing now.

I saw that, too. If true, it's a real head scratcher. You're right. Whatever he's doing now is lacking.

My memory isn't real clear either but I'm fairly confident it had mostly to do with her being a lesbian and that not being acceptable/palatable in the bible belt. She retired after being asked to step down. I guess Boone was AD at that time and didn't like the "look" of it. Then we hired that Adrian whoever (RB did) and he was gone quickly after the academic scandal. I think I have the timing of that right?
Regardless it appears Carol is out of coaching per wiki since 2014. She was WNBA coach of the year the year or so after she "retired" from Ole Miss if that tells you anything regarding her desire to coach.

My recollection of the Ross situation was that they weren't paying her enough money to eat at McDonalds and she was producing wins. At the end of the year, she should have gotten a big raise that made her financially competitive with other women basketball coaches. But we wouldn't cough up the money, so she left. Seems like it was during Boone's watch but those years fade after a while.
Insell should be fired today.

This team has horribly regressed this year and Bijork better have Insell's ass in his briefcase at minimum.
If he gets another year there should be no wiggle room for failure and lack of improvement, but I don't think Matt can salvage this mess.
