It seems to be a foregone conclusion...

on some other boards that Bjork is going to pull the trigger on AK after this season ends. What assurance is there of that actually happening? I’ll believe it when it is officially announced.

Edit: OK, I believe it now.

Re: It seems to be a foregone conclusion...

Here are two scenarios that have been surfacing about AK:

  • AK will be fired at the end of the season due to a poor performance of this season
  • AK will be given one year to turn it around since this is one of a few bad seasons and he is one of the winningest  coaches in Ole Miss basketball history

If AK is fired, then who will come to Ole Miss?  In reality it will take a big salary to get a basketball coach hired in Oxford.  The pipe dream of Micheal White coming to Oxford is most likely just that, a pipe dream.

You really think so?  It may sound like GOB babble, but we've got killer facilities, a great campus, a great town.  I think some has already pointed this out, but it bears repeating:  maybe the Pavilion was built, not to recruit players so much as to recruit a new coach.

Re: It seems to be a foregone conclusion...

Maybe we can't get anyone better, but we have to at least try.  The most frustrating thing about being an Ole Miss fan is that constant attitude of "we just can't do any better so we have to settle for average."

I don't expect we will ever be Kentucky in basketball or Georgia in football but we have to at least try to move in their direction rather than justifying keeping an AK or Luke around.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if AK is given another year. I think that is just postponing the inevitable, but Bjork might not have the cojones to fire AK now. This was supposed to be one of AK’s best teams ever, but look where we are now.

Re: It seems to be a foregone conclusion...

I would like to see Rahim Lockhart get a shot at coaching this team. He did a phenomenal job at JCJC.
Hired by JCJC in May 2014, Lockhart’s led the Bobcats to a 64-15 record over three seasons. In 2017, Lockhart coached Jones County to a 29-2 campaign and NJCAA sweet 16 berth.

Re: It seems to be a foregone conclusion...

A few years too late, but Mike White was the slam dunk before Florida got him, but in typical Ole Miss fashion, a day late and a dollar short.  That was a no-brainer if there ever was one!

Re: It seems to be a foregone conclusion...

Mike White may be available as his struggling Gator team has their fanbase unhappy with their high octane offense and little to no defense.  Sound familiar?
MW learned to be a coach under AK.  Why would anyone think replacing AK with MW would result in a different outcome assuming the same scenario exists with our program?

If he struggles at FL he could struggle here.
