Basketball team lays a big fat egg..

This team has been awful on the road all year (winless on the road I believe) but this was galling tonight — 94-61 loss to UT in Knoxville, and giving up 59 pts in the 2nd half.

But honestly - this game was never winnable; UT just has better talent and arguably better coaching.

I think it’s safe to say we can forget about a 20 win season this year.

I'm not sure why anyone gets surprised at this anymore.

It was like watching a NBA team playing a community college.

I’m not at all surprised we lost — that’s come to be expected in road games. What was surprising is getting completely blown out and embarrassed, save for maybe 2 or 4 runs which made the score a little more respectable at those points.

Re: Basketball team lays a big fat egg..

Ole Miss was terribly out of synch on both offense and defense. We had absolutely no answer for UT’s aggressive defense. AK was was way outcoached by Barnes.

Re: Basketball team lays a big fat egg..

Ole Miss is now 0-7 on the road.  The team was completely embarrassed by UT.  The announcers even made the comment that the Ole Miss team will be ready for the game to end, get on the plane, get the game behind them, and get ready for Missouri.  This could be AK's last year, but if it is, then who would Ole Miss consider hiring and who would consider coming to Ole Miss as the basketball HC?

Bjork is being paid big bucks to make that call. He should have already compiled a short list. Unless something is done to re-energize the basketball program, Bjork will have a $90 million white elephant on his hands with the Pavilion.

Re: Basketball team lays a big fat egg..

I'm firmly entrenched in the reality of our basketball program, lack of support and overall disdain for it by our fanbase.  With that in mind I'll politely remind everyone down the road how nice it was to win 20 games per season with the same kind of talent that previous coaches won 8-9 games per season with.
A new coach isn't going to energize the program beyond the first loss.  That's because our fanbase has no clue what it actually takes to be the kind of program they expect.
Definition of insanity is doing same thing over and over and expecting a different result.  Firing the most successful coach in program history to hire someone else and then giving new coach same restrictions to work within yet expecting NCAA tournament berths as the norm is purely insanity.
Now same thing could be said for keeping AK under same conditions.  No doubt he has maxed out.  Only thing that will make a difference long term is a commitment to winning and building a program on the foundation AK has provided.  He has shown we can compete with the big time programs and when the talent is there win those games.  Facilities are there but we have the lowest asst coaches salary in the conference as well as the leanest budget.
I'm all for a new coach and hope he does well but not naive enough to think that anyone will be as or more successful than AK in the environment called Ole Miss basketball.
What I don't understand is the unbridled GOB enthusiasm for Luke and the total hatred of AK.
Some of the comments I've read are comical at best in how they support Luke but want AK gone.  irony at its finest.

I suspect AK isn't one of the GOB country club set.  The same bunch who couldn't abide Coach O....they saw him as beneath their status.....not a blue blood OM guy....ML on the other hand IS of that 'club'.....just like Kinard was following Vaught.....ushered in by insiders because he was one of them....people more concerned with status than with winning.....
