Ole Miss picks up commitment from JUCO defensive tackle Noah Jefferson
JUCO defensive tackle Noah Jefferson has committed to Ole Miss.
It has been a good 24 hours for Matt Luke and Ole Miss on the recruiting trail, as they have now landed their third commitment in that time, this time being from JUCO defensive tackle Noah Jefferson.
Jefferson, a 3-star per 247Sports, is a major pickup for the Rebels defense, as he is ranked the No. 8 JUCO defensive tackle and the No. 19 overall JUCO player in the 2018 signing class.
At 6-foot-4 and 330 pounds, Jefferson originally committed to USC out of Desert Oasis HS in Las Vegas, but spent the past season playing at Arizona Western College. At times also lining up at tight end, Jefferson has terrific quickness that will make him a threat for the Rebels defensive line this upcoming season.
Jefferson chose the Rebels over Florida and Arkansas, among others.
Earlier on Monday, the Rebels received a commitment from 3-star offensive tackle Hamilton Hall while 3-star linebacker Kevontae’ Ruggs announced his decision on Sunday night.
Ole Miss’ class is currently ranked No. 11 in the SEC and No. 36 in the nation.

Sounds like a good pickup to me. This is the type player we might have missed on if the NCAA cloud were still hanging over us.

Could end up with a top 30 class. Not impressive in sec standards but with all the horse crap we have put up with the last few years, particularly the last 10 months, it is solid. Even with a short class to recruit with.

It's a decent class considering it's the first since our NCAA sanctions came down. It's not the type of class we hope to have regularly in the future, of course, but considering where we were just a few months ago, it's certainly respectable.

I just hope we are evaluating players well. I know 5 stars are 5 stars for a reason. But I also know there are plenty of 2 stars and 3 stars that can up their game and be a 4 or 5 star on the field as time progresses. I never thought Freeze was very good at that.

It is all about development. a solid 3 star who sees the field a great deal ends up being a solid player by the end of his career. Nut's first 2 year was a solid example of that. When Orgeron signed most of these kids, they were forced to play because Cutt left not just the talent pool super shallow, he left us with something like 50-60 scholarship players on the roster. We spent most of the next 3-5 years trying to to get/stay at the 86 total scholarship number. Then after nutt screwed us, Freeze was fighting the same battle the first few years.
Point being, we did not have enough players on the team so evaluating talent and filling need was super important. It will be important the next 3 years because we can not afford to miss out on hardly any position needs.
We have signed a load on defense. We have had enough defensive players, the problem is not having enough players with SEC talent at certain positions.

Apparently Freeze was pre-occupied with his ego, reputation, and night time entertainment which caused him to forget about the functions of being a football coach. Hopefully Ole Miss is doing good evaluations on the players who are committed and will coach the players up to give them higher skill levels. This class is better than anticipated, but to keep you in the SEC West a school will require top recruiting classes every year.
