If you guys are not buying tickets or supporting the Loyalty Foundation,
I don't think you should be so critical of us "good ole boys" who still do. There are 3 games that only cost $35 per ticket.  A family of 4 can do the whole week-end for less than $500.00, if you don't have to stay in Oxford.  My son stays in Batesville, meets us in the Circle for tailgating, goes to the game and eats at one one of the Mexican restaurants, fills up with gas and goes home (271) miles one way for about $450.  Sure you can easily spend over a $1000. If you want, but you certainly do not have to.  If he and my daughter-in-law can do it 2 or 3 times a year on a preacher and a teacher's salary, most everybody that wants to can do it.  It is where you place your emphasis. Y'all are right about one thing, TV is hurting ticket sales.

I don't think it is an issue of loyalty to Ole Miss.  For an increasing number of folks it's purely economics.  I love Ole Miss, but I'm not sure how much longer I can afford to buy season tickets.  I love Ferraris too, but you won't find one in my driveway.

Re: Price of tickets

I had season tickets for 17 years when my children were younger and for two years after the last one graduated from Ole Miss. We were part of a tent in the Grove for seven years. It was fun, and we enjoyed it. After that, the wife and I decided we didn't want to be tied down every home game Saturday. Our daughter is expecting our first grandchild in early October, so we'd miss some games this season any way. With every game being televised now, it's so easy to fire up the grill, cook some steaks and enjoy a nice "tailgate" in front of the TV.

Re: Price of tickets

Not to mention, with the parking situation, unless you donate or win the lottery to get a pass, has just made going to a game nothing but a big hassle. It is just not fun for me anymore. Sorry but that's the way I feel. I typically make it to a few games regardless but I honestly don't know why.

Re: Price of tickets

With the high cost of going to ball games and the fact that most games are televised, you have to wonder how long will fans be willing to pay the price to attend the events.  Ball games are exciting and fun to attend, but the cost comparison to doing other things makes people consider the costs incurred.

Also, many people have other things to do.  We still go to the lake on the weekends, usually until the end of October.  Many people like to hunt.  There are also many fall festivals and people who prefer to travel to locations to enjoy seeing the change of seasons.  With games being on TV, you have the option to watch the games you want to watch, not to mention recording the game to viewed at a later time.

Although the costs of games are high, there are still the die hards who want to be a recognized as high rollers of the school and pay big donations to the Loyalty Club.  If Ole Miss were consistently winning and had the potential to compete in championships, then the costs might be justified to attend a few games.  Spending $1,000's on a football season to me is money that could be better spent for other things.

Re: Price of tickets

Honestly, I think college football is going to start dying soon. The millenials simply don't care about sports. You can tell this from the student sections. They can't keep students at a football game. Also, with ESPN hurting financially because of people ditching paid t.v. service, the money is going to start to dry up. Add to this the rising cost of tickets and I bet in 10 years college football will be a shadow of its former greatness.

Not to mention, folks are getting fed up with the f'ing pro players who have forgotten on which side their bread is buttered & disrespect the country by refusing to stand for the National Anthem.  When Americans decide to stop supporting the NFL, there will be nowhere for players to get the glory & make the millions they dream of while in college.  That might reduce the numbers of guys that are motivated to play.  I know that most play for the love of the game, but it is easier to love when you can envision big $$$ in your future.

I remember this.

I have field club tickets and they are really nice. To be honest with you, if I weren't going up to sit in the club section I would have little interest in going to any game this year. Freeze was the team and with him gone the team is gonna fold fast. Anyway, going forward I'm not sure if I'll continue to buy tickets or not. I agree with the above posters that I do think that college and pro football is on the decline. I think both have already peaked. I don't care about it half as much as I use to and I think others feel the same.

Speaking of which, I hope they shrank the size of the student section. It looked HORRIBLE on TV last year when they'd all bail at halftime and that NEZ was nearly empty. Even during close games, the majority of students at the game didn't give a damn and were more worried about going to the Grove or a party.

Re: Price of tickets

I bought my 6 season tickets once again to sit on the 40. Papa bought the Ole Miss season package for the Jackson games in the 60's and we made a game in Oxford each year, pretty good since Papa nor I graduated from Ole Miss.  He started buying the season ticket packages from Ole Miss around the 1972 season and I have continued to buy them since Papa's passing in 1982. Two weeks ago I got an email from the Loyalty Foundation that they had some extra parking passes for sale at the old Whirlpool complex. I called to inquire because with two sons it would be nice to have an extra pass. Well Jojo told me to be able to purchase the extra pass I would have to increase my contributions to $5k. I told him that since the band doesn't play Dixie or From Dixie With Love anymore and Colonel Reb is not our official mascot anymore and we don't fly our state flag on campus anymore I am having a hard time justifying why I am spending anything on Ole Miss. I told him unlike the idiots we have in the Lyceum I am a Mississippian and I believe old times are not forgotten they are revered. He said that times are changing. I told him to tell that to guys who the University rolls out at the end of each first quarter to tell us what SEC championship they won and then give them back the money they donated. Jojo was not happy. Sorry for being long winded but it made me mad.

Re: Price of tickets

I certainly am not critical of anyone who buy tickets or gives money to the Loyalty Foundation.  Actually I applaud anyone who does this because it puts money in the Ole Miss coffers.  My position is that I will not spend this much money on game tickets or make extra donations to get prime seats.  Fall is a busy time for me and I often have to work on weekends, so buying tickets for a Saturday event might be like throwing money away because I would not get to use the tickets.  In my mode I am creating income instead of paying for expenses.  Anyway, I live too far away to make the drive on a regular basis.
