2018 Ole Miss Baseball

The batting Bianco's have a highly touted group with experience returning for the 2018 season.  It will be interesting to see if Bianco and the team can put things together as a team.

Time to see if those sophomores can get some offense going. The SEC is stacked this season. I'm excited about our pitching rotation, but we're gonna have to much better at the plate than last season.

Re: 2018 Ole Miss Baseball

It always seems that either the Rebels are strong at batting and weak at pitching or strong at pitching and weak at batting.  There never seems to be a balance between the two activities.  On the other hand, we are rebuilding.

Can't wait until mid_February.  We'll be there in overcoats with blankets. Neither my wife nor I care much about basketball, so baseball can be everyone's passion this year and a trip to Omaha would take up some of the disappointment of no bowl game at Christmas.

I enjoy baseball but always avoid getting my hopes up. Bianco's teams seem to underperform on a regular basis.

Yep and they are charging too damn much for status quo baseball. I'm ready to see some outstanding postseason baseball or see Bianco being shown the door

Bianco peaked in the early 2000s and did not progress much after the loss of Dan McDonnell.  He failed to hire and maintain quality assistants after McDonnell.  Instead he hired "yes" men and micromanaged the team.

Bianco is another example of an Ole Miss coach who has gone into vacation mode and simply collects a check.  He has made the right connections to set himself up for a contract extension with raise, even if he underperforms.

Now how many seasons has Biance been at Ole Miss, how many times has he been to Omaha, and how many times has he had top rated classes?  He just does not seem to be able to put it together.

If he does not produce this year, then it is time to find a head coach who will produce.

What are your thoughts on status quo for football and charging more for it?
Maybe status quo is being too presumptuous.
Football and Baseball are the only two sports at Ole Miss that are revenue producers.  All other sports operate at a loss.  If I recall there are only a handful of schools that run baseball programs in the black financially.

Re: 2018 Ole Miss Baseball

My thoughts are that football prices are high enough already.  The schools always want to put their hands in the pockets of the fans and fleece them for more money.  It would easily cost a family of four over $500 just to do a day trip and attend a ball game.  If this family spent the night in Oxford, which is usually a two night minimum, the family could easily spend over $1,000 per weekend.  Personally, I can think of better ways to spend my hard earned funds.

Re: 2018 Ole Miss Baseball

Bowhunter, I am paying more for my baseball seats than I do for premium football seats.

It's fine for the school to crank up the amount that you have to pony up for seats, but if Bjork are going to do that, they damn well should crank up the demands/expectations on the coaches too. I'm sick to death of treading water in baseball for the ridiculous salary Mike has gotten with 1 trip to Omaha in almost 20 years with primo facilities.
