My email response to Vitter after today's newsletter

"Dr. Vitter,

I wanted to reach out to you regarding your most recent newsletter. While I have welcomed the contextualization of the monuments on our campus and renaming of the buildings I cannot support such a one sided stance in your letter regarding the horrific events in Charlottesville. The truth and core of the violence wasn't only the white supremacist rally. Equally to blame were the other two hate groups BLM and antifa. We must protect our First Amendment rights to free speech and protests. While we may not like what is being spoken it is their right to protest it. At no point does anyone else's rights overcome the First Amendment. Please denounce all hate groups so none of them ever feel welcomed on my campus at The Flagship University of Mississippi. Ole Miss is so near and dear to our hearts.
I hope we can replace the current state flag. Any confederate emblem has no place in our society today. It represents all that is wrong with our people and our past.
I also hope we can learn to acknowledge all hate groups for what they are and what they represent. Hatred and racial divide. If and only when any of these hate groups begins a racially equal dialogue should they be referred to as anything other than a hate group because that is what they are.
Denouncing only one of three guilty parties pays homage to the other two and signals our acceptance and condoning to their actions. That doesn't represent me, our University or the people of the great state of Mississippi.
I strongly encourage you to revisit this topic and address all offending parties equally.

Regards,

Chris Phillips
Ole Miss Class of 1999"

Re: My email response to Vitter after today's newsletter

Every time someone attacks only one side of an issue,  The other side emboldened and they feel validated. They will continue to push mower and their Fringe and radical agenda

The left is the one nation wide by the tens of thousands destroying and attacking. Yet all the worlds problems are with a few hundred racists where one guy did something stupid and killed someone

Thanks, Rebelbowhunter, for sharing that.  Please post any response from Vitter.  I stopped reading his letter because I could not see how welcoming the students back to campus relates to the events in Charlottesville.

I agree - there was no reason to even bring up Charlottesville. Vitter is just trying to come out being very PC, as that's the "in thing" right now. However, if he is going to bring up that topic, then he should condemn the actions by all hate groups. This isn't to say the murdering bastard shouldn't have been singled out. The problem is that we have seen BLM protesters become violent and destruction, but everyone is too chicken shit to call them out for fear of being labeled a racist. Antifa, by definition, is nothing but a racist group that has also been destructive during their protests as well. But, it seems that if anyone dares to declare one of those racist groups as racist, then suddenly they themselves are a racist. The world has become a crazy freaking place where common sense and decency has been thrown by the wayside. People are incapable of critical thinking or accepting of differing viewpoints. The younger generation seems to think it's all about protesting if you didn't get your way. Sadly, it's just gonna get worse............

Re: My email response to Vitter after today's newsletter

Vitter is a poor excuse for a Chancellor.  With the mention of the Charlottesville incident, he is opening another can of worms for causing conflict at Ole Miss.  Once again Ole Miss will probably give itself another black eye.  Maybe Vitter can simply change the whole campus of Ole Miss to be something like The Leftovers were on HBO.  They could simply paint everything white, remove all statues, make everyone think the same, and make everyone dress the same.  Why can't Ole Miss just learn to keep their mouth shut and simply quit making statements that make them seem to be politically correct?

I have 2 thoughts:

1.  I'm waiting for the onslaught on the statue in the Circle to begin.  We'll probably move the statue of Meredith into it's place. Then they can move the pre-game pep rally out of the grove and rally roun' his statue and sing kumbya...that should be Africanized enough to appease all but the northern press....

2.  It gives great confidence to have this 'chancellor' leading (or retreating) the NCAA defense (capitulation)..... </sarcasm off>

I could totally see the Administration starting up some crap regarding the statue on the Circle during football season. For some reason, they seem to think that's the best time to piss off the fanbase.
