Blue collar football.....REALLY?

I'm a lurker over at NAFOOM....I don't post but I do scan the threads from time to time to see what the off the wall types are postulating...

I noticed a thread that said "Our theme now is no nonsense, hard-nosed, blue collar football"...

Translation.....Cutcliffe ball.....conservative....boring as hell......dry.....unimaginative and a loser....

Oh, not that I follow roundball, I also noticed that after building a ga-zillion dollar PA-villion.....we lost to the equivalent of some junior college team at home....thought the new roundball 'castle' was going to fix EVERYTHING and take us to the final 4....

I would have been happy putting up 2 goals on in a parking lot and spending that money on football......but on second thought we don't want to win anyways to we might as well throw the money down a rathole.....What difference does it make?

Re: Blue collar football.....REALLY?

The older I get, the less I concern myself with any Ole Miss sport. They are really doing their best to push loyal fans away from caring about athletics. With Bianco, Kennedy and now Luke on board, this is the weakest group of big 3 sport coaches in the SEC by far.

Re: Blue collar football.....REALLY?

Not defending last night's loss, but that was a NCAA tourny team the past couple seasons that we lost to (and they'll make the tourny again this season). I still expect us to make the tourny this season.

Yeah...I figure, since the tourney lets in a certain number from the weak sister conferences it doesn't take much to be at the top of one of those.....and get in the tourney with the big boys....

But, like I said, I don't follow roundball so my perspective is probably a bit uniformed.....

Goon...I'm right there with you.... I'm slowly 'divorcing' myself....but I just can't go cold turkey just yet....but it's coming.

Re: Blue collar football.....REALLY?

Luke said in a interview on XM radio yesterday that the Ole Miss football team had become "soft" (the word he used). The answer came in response to a question by Greg McElroy about what Luke meant by "changing the culture" of Ole Miss football. While not using Freeze's name, it was clear that Matt believed the team was not as tough as it needed to be under Freeze. He intends to change that. That might where the "blue collar" reference came from.

Re: Blue collar football.....REALLY?

I just have to laugh my ass off when Luke makes these comments about being soft and becoming hard working blue collar hard nosed going forward.
I mean does the guy have amnesia or what?  As a coach he is the damn epitome of soft, lazy and the farthest thing removed from hard nosed.  Yet somehow now as the HC he's going to demand toughness, hard nosed and blue collar?
Let me forecast what is going to happen next season:  We go 4-8 and will spend more time getting our brains beat out up and down the field than we will winning.  We won't be competitive in way more of the games than we will be.  Let the excuses roll as to why we won't be but the end results on the field will harken back to the cut days where we won 6-7 games a year but never threatened anywhere closer than 4th in the West.  But hey the Shreveport folks loved us...
