So Dave Doeren was the other option...
According to SEC Country, Dave Doeren of NC State was going to be the guy if Luke lost the Egg Bowl. Not sure I like that option either....

He was not setting the world on fire at NC State. 8 regular season wins in his 4th or 5th year there doesn't really inpress. I could name several I would rather have including Venables who has been the DC at 2 different schools when they won national championships.

Would have been a major upgrade over Luke. he is very hampered at NC State. Facilities, recruiting budget, asst coach salaries. etc. They are a BB school and will always be one. Has a GREAT Resume'.
If you take NC State to a bowl game every year, you are doing well. O'Brien at NC State the previous 6 years(40-35) was about the same as Doeren. It is what it is at NC State. Chuck Amato the same in 7 years before that(49-37)( other than the 11-3 record when Phillip Rivers was a JR)
23-4 in 2 years at Northern Ill before that. Was a great DC at Wisconsin for 4 years ( they were 49-16 in those years) Actually helped turn around Kansas under Mangino( of course when know the history of that dumpster fire , before that and after.
Anyway, you put Doeren at a place like OM or and football school, he would win big. Missed a extra point to beat clemson last year and lost in ot, beat Notre Dame last year, FSU and louisville this year.
damn I spent a lot of time on Doeren, just a damn good coach.

DLine coach and recruiting coordinator was one of O's boys at Ole Miss (GA). The noise is they will send 3 dline people to the league this year.
