Another coach has reportedly turned down the Tennessee head coaching position.
Per Chris Low, Duke head coach David Cutcliffe has told the Volunteers he is not interested in the position and will remain with the Blue Devils until he retires. The Volunteers seemed to have its head coach on Sunday in Greg Schiano, but fan backlash forced athletic director John Currie to cancel the hiring. Tennessee has also had interest in new Florida coach Dan Mullen, Jon Gruden, and Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell.
Cutcliffe served as an assistant at Tennessee from 1982-98, including as offensive coordinator from 93-98. After a stint as head coach at Ole Miss from 1998-2004, he returned to Knoxville as the offensive coordinator for two seasons before accepting the Duke head coaching position in 2008.
After a slow start with the Blue Devils, Cutcliffe has led them to bowl games in five of the last six seasons.

Cut knows he would be expected to actually win BIG at TN.....Duke will be happy as long as he has a winning record....7-5 would be just fine and dandy.... Cut can ride the rocking chair without pressure until he's ready to retire.
Duke and OM have a lot in common it seems....run by wimps with no need or desire to be serious about winning big...

Maybe in a crazy twist of fate Cut goes to Tennessee and Duke comes after Luke? I will personally charter the jet to fly his ass one way to Durham.

Very smart move buy Cutcliffe. He is under no pressure, makes good money not great like he would have at Tennessee but like you said he can live without much mental pressure at Duke. I am proud for him.
I think Dan Mullen was in a similar situation at State. As long as Dan went 7-5 or 8-4 with an occasional 9 or 10 win season Mullen had it made. No Pressure at State he made Great Money over $4 Million per year and State would have given him a raise of at least $1 million maybe $1.5 million but he let his ego to coach at a Big Name School get to him and now Mullen is in a Pressure Cooker to Produce 10 Plus Wins every year his years of 7 or 8 wins a year are over Dan will be lucky to last 4 years. Cutcliffe was smart he can coast to retirement; Dan had it made like Cutcliffe and Dan could have coasted for 20 years until he retired but he was dumb and probably will be out of a job in a few years.
