Jimmy Sexton pushed Willie Taggart away from Ole Miss. Taggart was very interested. Sexton obviously has no love for Ole Miss since the Freeze resignation cost him a shit ton of money. Sexton told Taggart he should stay away from an alumni group that would never fully support anyone but Matt Luke, a compliance department that would set you up and then stab you in the back, a donor base that valued access over success, etc. Basically told him it was a toxic situation he didn't have or want to try to overcome and that if he would wait the Florida State job was going to be open and he would get him that job.
Charlie Strong had a contract placed in front of him to sign. Language in that contract added by Vitter said if at any point doing his tenure as Ole Miss head coach he was found to have had any kind of behavior like what happened in Louisville he would be immediately terminated for cause and forfeit his buyout. Strong walked.
Norvell apparently had a fling with some 19 year old chick and there was also some drug abuse concerns. Tennessee found this out while vetting him and notified Ole Miss. Memphis didn't find it when they vetted him so they are stuck with him since it occurred prior to him coming there to coach.
Ross Bjork is on his way out. Whether it's on his terms or he was told to go remains to be seen. My suspicion is he was completely undermined in this job "search" and won't let that be the undoing of his professional career. I'm sure he's been at Ole Miss long enough to see how things are done and what really matters to the GOB's. It's a toxic no win situation and he may have finally realized he doesn't have the chutzpah to overthrow them.
I'm hearing that Kurt Roper has already been contacted to fill the OC position. We all know Mazzone is going to be available as well so we may get them both.
Walker jones and that john dude at utah state that was here before as associate ad under boone are ready and waiting to step in as new AD to complete the coup of shameless disgrace.
Luke went all in after the auburn altercation leveraging every single resource at his disposal to make him the permanent head coach. Up to and including have the players threaten to transfer if he wasn't named the permanent head coach.
I have heard some small rumblings that Bjork was offering basically 2 contracts. One if we got self imposed penalties or less and another if they were worse. I have not heard that but one time so I cannot verify the validity of it. Doesn't really make sense anyway to be honest. Any contract negotiation is going to continue until we find out the NCAA rulings then would be renegotiated at that point based on facts of the current landscape.
I did read some of Neal and Chase's articles of late and as much as I despise Neal he did offer some very insightful thoughts on how this played out and the only reason it made sense. Was told he has a podcast coming out today where he would lay it out there. He obviously has nothing to lose or gain for that matter so in this one instance his insight may be quit compelling vs the sunshine pumpers on the spirit.

I have long suspected that our administration has that reputation....which would explain why we haven't been able to get a 'name'...... I suspect when Tub walked off to Auburn (I'm still ticked at the way he did it but can understand WHY) after being promised things and then reneged on the word began to circulate.....DON'T TOUCH THAT!
That perception will take a COMPLETE cleaning of the house and replacement with polar opposites....and even then it will take years to build a reputation back....

Thanks for posting that. With Norvell, I was told he had a gambling problem, so that's new information for me regarding him.

If Luke has pulled all the strings, what is going to take to get him fired? How badly does he have to perform and what is his buyout?

Luke is in like Flint and wearing a teflon suit. Ole Miss is stuck with him. No matter how badly he performs, there will always be some excuse. He is good at making excuses, just look at his seasons as OL coach to remember all the excuses. With Luke at the helm, there are some tough times ahead for Ole Miss football.

One thing I would really like to know. Who are the GOB's that control Ole Miss athletics? They are obviously wealthy, powerful and extremely influential. However, try as hard as I might--and I have made serious inquiries--I can never get anybody to name names. In this coaching search, the name of Sean Touhy came up a lot, but he was suposedly pushing Chad Morris hard. Just who are these nameless, faceless people who have complete control of Ole Miss athletics?

I've wondered this for a long time myself.

Personally I think a lot of it comes out of the bureaucracy....sort of like we see in congress or the state department.....nameless minions given power beyond their ability to manage that make decisions that ripple like waves across a pond.....sometimes going contrary to the wishes of the people they're supposed to serve.....and instead they serve the bureaucracy which is the source of their livelihood.....and power.
I think some of the money GOBs you mention might have their contacts that they can move to act....so you never see their hand on the controls......the bureaucracy does it for them.....

From several people who might know comes the word that Vitter wanted a minority head coach, and Strong was a possibility. I can't find anyone who says Strong actually had a contract put in front of him.
