On multiple boards the rumor is Tennessee offering 7 ml per year. We shall see.

7 mill. Crazy talk. I hope it is true. He would do better than butch for sure

I think he is gone this year but does Tenn need to pay 7 mil/year? Wowza!
Mullen has done an amazing job at state without top recruiting classses. Butch seems to have Tenn stockpiled with talent through some top recruiting classes. Will be interesting to see what Mullen could do with that talent plus a better recruiting situation going forward.
The problem I see would be that Alabama is Tenns main rival. His whole schtick at state revolved around our rivalry. Saban would make it his personal mission to destroy Tenn (like the entire state) if Mullen pulled that crap with Bama.

Last night I talked to someone in the know at UT. He said that, behind Gruden, Mullen is their top target. They also like Mike Norvell, Scott Frost, and Greg Schiano as fall backs if Mullen does not accept the job. The Vols are willing to pay big bucks for their next hire.

Gruden is a pipedream - and I kind of wish they would hire him. He would be a total bust. Frost is gonna go to Nebraska. That leaves them Mullen, Norvell and Schiano.

They could also go after Bill Cowher and Bill Parcels.

Personally, I would rather Mullens stay at State. State is trying to keep up with their Big Brother, so they are spending big bucks on coaches and facilities upgrades. You have to wonder who is on their hot list.

Mullen’s Bulldogs just completed an 8-4 regular season (including a loss at home to their bitter rival, a 28 point loss at Georgia and a 39 point loss at Auburn) in which he made $4.5 million and is likely in line for an extension. Think about that. Why leave, ever?
In the SEC MSU beat a terrible KY team, A&M who is firing their coach, a miracle comeback to beat Ark who is firing their coach and L$U who was terrible and a week later lost at home to TROY.
They beat Charleston Southern, UMASS and the worst BYU team in 25 years in non conference.
Mullet had done a decent job at MSU, but go look at their schedule over his tenure. Every year they start out 4-0 with the worst non conference schedule in the country.
A miracle worker he is not.
Last 3 years in the SEC, he is 11-13 (33-39 career in SEC). They are paying 4.5 MILLION bucks for that.
Sumlin is 12-12 (25-23 career) the last 4 years in the SEC and his is getting his arse fired.

I agree with Rock. If Mullen is smart he will stay put. Why would he want to leave a place where he is considered a Savior for winning 7, 8, or 9 games a year to go to a Tenn or Florida where he must win 10 plus games a year or get fired. Remember Georgia's coach who averaged 9 or 10 games a year for years and they fired him. Mullen I believe is about 47 years of age so why would he want to leave and get into a situation of rebuilding a Tenn or Florida mess? State will give him another million plus incentives to stay there plus he takes off 6 to 8 weeks during the summer every year. I don't think he could do that at Tenn. If he is smart he will stay where he is and continue to win 7 or 8 games a year and be considered States' Savior.

State has always played an incredibly weak schedule. It's how they guarantee themselves a bowl game each year.
