he has under achieved a bit but it is a lot about expectation.  a number of years he would get off to a strong start, get ranked near top 10 and then the 2nd half of the season start loosing key games.  Manzell created him, under performing defense every year did him in.  He was able to recruit because TAM is pretty impressive in terms of resources and facilities.  He has been able to sign a load talent all over the field, just never put it together.  Was able to hire top coaches, never translated on the field.  

 

Anytime you have that much donor support its going to take a Sabanesque coach to control the drama, nitpicking, bs that comes along with the cash.  See Texas as prime example.  Isn't always about money either.  See Kansas State and what they are being put through with Bill Snyder's demands that his son take over for him when he steps down.  Their fanbase is majorly fractured over it.  One side wants them to go get Venables from Clemson and the other side wants to do what Bill says to do.  AD left for Tennessee and word in Western Kansas is that Snyder has reached out to any potential HC candidates at Tennessee to let them know the AD is a jerk/asshole.  Bet you guys didn't see that coming did you?  I didn't.  
So that drama is inhibiting their pool of AD candidates knowing what they are about to inherit.
