Ole Miss, Mississippi State team up for pregame message to temper Egg Bowl passion
Rivalries are intense.
They’re meant to be clashes for trophies that mean a lot to both schools.
A win for Ole Miss gives them bowl eligibility in a season that looked like it was headed for a dumpster fire after Hugh Freeze’s resignation.
With just 3 days to kick from the 114th all-time meeting between Ole Miss and Mississippi State, @OleMissSports & @HailState have a message for its fans.
1:00 PM - 20 Nov 2017
It seems like both schools have an interest in keeping their fans from appearing in any fight videos on Thursday when the Rebels visit the Bulldogs.
“We ask that fans from both schools honor this soried rivalry with civility and respect for each other,” the statement said in part.”….Please join us in enjoying the tradition of the Egg Bowl in a respectful and positive manner.”All those words may ring hollow once the alcohol begins to flow and the game starts. A Thanksgiving Day game means some might have the day off work and are ready to get rowdy. As is the case at most football games, there are bound to be a few incidents, but at least the schools can say they tried.

I just ran four of those off because my office manager no longer buys Charmin.

There are always fights at the game sometimes between fans and other times between players. I remember the 1997 pregame fight that was instigated by Jokie Cheryl and the bullfrauds. In the end of this game, the Rebels scored, went for two and silenced doody nobled field with a 15-14 win. It will be hard to stop fighting at this game because there are always a couple of punks or hot heads who want to run their mouth and then fight it out!!!

Have y'all ever been to Starkville for a game? It doesn't matter the sport! There are some very disrespectful, bad mannered, and ill behaved fans there. Possibly even more so than LSU... State games have been some of the most notorious... even when they were played in Jackson.

I've been to nearly all of the other SEC stadiums for football games and several for baseball games. Never have I ever had any issues with the home team's fans except for Starkville and football games at Scott Field. I'm 1000% on issues at Egg bowl games in Starkville which is why I quit going. Now living in Tupelo I'm almost equidistant to both stadiums so the temptation is real but the reality is a bad experience awaits. I'm not talking about cajoling with opposing fans. I'm talking about grown men running at you with their cowbells, igloo coolers, etc as if they are going to attack you all the while yelling get out of my damn town. Last Egg Bowl I attended we got our asses kicked in 2009 and we were favored. That is worst case scenario. My wife and I were in our car leaving the campus when a 60+ year old man with one of those igloo 6 pack slide top coolers in his hand literally ran at our car screaming "get out of my damn town you rednecks". At the time we lived in KC and has Missouri plates but he could see the red polo shirt I had on through the window. We didn't have car flags or anything. I reached to put the car in park and my wife grabbed my hand. That is probably the only reason I didn't spend a night in Oktibbeha county jail. Said as we drove away I would never go back. Mind you I didn't even make eye contact with the guy and he almost hit my car with his cooler. It was a rage I haven't seen in any fans eyes or actions ever before. I just hope the fans of ours that do go are safe. It's a whole different level of hatred for sure. Sad but true. This is why I hate all of their fans. No exceptions. I want them to never win in any sport or life in general. They deserve to wallow in their own self misery forever. I couldn't care less they are fellow Mississippians. Those are not the kind of people that represent my Mississippi. They are viewed no different than KKK or Black Panthers. To hell with every single one of them.
That said the 2 games I did attend where I had very little issues were the 99 game where they stunned everyone with that last second field goal and the 97 game with Deuce and the brawl where we won on the 2 pt conversion. The ending to those two games had the crowd so stunned/deflated/relieved it helped the exit be mostly uneventful.

The rivalry began its nasty downward spiral when Jackie Sherrill became head coach there. Mullen went the Jackal one better and openly encouraged MSU fans to up their animosity level towards Ole Miss. Through the years as this was happening, the MSU administration either supported it or didn't care enough to rein in the head coaches. The result is what we have to today, with Rosebowl and the "professional" haters in full bloom as well as the fan base.

WE as fan's/alumni can take it... I don't care if they hate Olé Miss or not. The feeling is mutual. It's our administration that pisses their pants and wants to sit around the campfire with the dogs , sing songs and roast marshmallows.
