These fans are like spoiled brats. If they don't get their way, then they pout because their choice was not the person hired as HC. If you think of it, these fans are probably spoiled brats.

That would be interesting.....The GOBs (also known as the Mazzone Mafia) heads would explode.... But there is zero chance Leach would get hired....he's a Maverick....a TRUE Rebel and the Grey Poupon crowd would erupt in disgust at his standoffish style......

here is my deal, i don't know. I want strong. a portion of the fanbase hates strong. a portion of out base hates luke. a portion of our fanbase would hate any hire we make so what difference does it make?
I love matt luke to death as a person. as a coach, well, he has not produced as an OL coach. So are we now going to hand the reigns over to a former position coach? how did that work out the last time? I would wager that same people who are pushing the luke narrative are the same people who made our last position coach turned HC life hell.
when you take the emotion out of it, here are 3 points that makes it a bit easier for me to not believe Luke would be a candidate.
1: during his many years at Ole Miss, we have not seen any improvement at OL. while he was OL coach, we destroyed how many QBs? We ran the ball consistently how many times? I think he has improved as a recruiter, but he has not shown any progress during his 4 stents as an OL coach that gave me any proof he can coach an OL.
2: bama and au game this year. I will say this, even as we were getting a mud hole stomped in our ass, the team never quit. Did not quit at any point this year. The defensive issues we have right now are not a new issue. The issues today were the same issues we saw last year. But the complete melt down during these 2 games is not an indicator of a coach ready for the SEC. Bama and AU are not as good as the world thinks they are. We were just not prepared. Were we ever going to win these games? no, but you at least expect a better showing that what we saw. I believe we have talent and depth on this team at every position except for LB. the complete crap show of a defense we keep putting on the field is not Luke's fault, but I start to think, who would luke have the pull with to take over this defense? Are we expecting a position coach turned interim, turned head coach to be able to hire a DC that can turn things around?
3: Where would Luke rank in the latter of coaches in the SEC? At this point, he is in the bottom 3. fair or not, rankings are earned and when it comes to how you are viewed, he is not going to be regarded as a top head coach. that goes a long way in terms of recruiting and that shows right now in our last place rankings in recruiting. our class last year was not horrible, but it still did not fill some of our defensive needs this year. Being we are behind the 8 ball the next 2-4 years with ncaa sanctions, can we afford another curve to overcome?
Here is the deal, luke is doing better than I expected. We should be looking a 7 wins right now. That is huge. We just don't have a lot room for error. The NCAA could still come down on us like a ton of bricks and if we start getting deep into the B list candidates, then I would consider luke. We know who he is and where his heart would be and that would go far for me in terms of keeping him as HC. But at the end of the day, there are a load of better options and we are now at a level of a program that we need to take the best available and not settling. We are a top program in terms of revenue and that is not going to stand if we don't act like a top program. Top programs do not hire position coaches. Of course, if we get screwed by the ncaa, options change.. But if we get off with what we already self imposed, our new coach has much less baggage to deal with and it opens up a bigger range of candidates whom all have a huge leg up over luke.
