Chad Morris from SMU - FYI

Chad Morris from SMU has connections to Ole Miss through Shawn Tuohy.  Shawn Tuohy, Jr. joined the SMU football staff an analyst and operational assistant in January 2017 after playing for the Mustangs in 2016.  As many fans are aware, Tuohy was instrumental in getting Freeze hired as the last Ole Miss HC.

Looking at coaching facts, Morris worked with Dabno Sweeney and was integral in developing the Clemson offense.  Although he has some notariety, Morris' record at SMU is 11-19 and his defensive efficiency currently ranks 115 out of 125.  He may be an offensive guru, but he certainly does not seem to do well with the defense.

Hiring Morris could be similar to the Hugh Freeze hire, when Freeze was picked by certain high powered alumni to become the next Ole Miss coach.  Morris is an offensive coach who runs a fun offense and he has ties to the Tuohy family.  If Morris were hired, this could be another GOB hire at Ole Miss.

Haven't thought about the Touhy connection.

Fans can almost be assured that the Tuhoys will be pushing for Morris at the next HC at Ole Miss.  Tuhoy was part of what ended up being a bad decision on the part of hiring Hugh Sleaze.  His input should not be highly considered on this decision, no matter how much money he donates to the school.  Unfortunately, many fans are not optimistic that there will not be GOB meddling on the next HC hire.

Re: Chad Morris from SMU - FYI

as much as I want to score 40 pnts every game, I would rather have a defense that shuts other other side down.  defenses win championships.  We have about 20 years worth of "fun and gun" offenses in college football and I don't recall 1 team with a high powered offense that has not also had an issue with a defense that is prone with giving up loads of points.

Maybe there is a recipe that allows for a 40 pnt a game offense and a defense that can rank within the top 40.  But basically, the more points you score, the more likely the lower time of possession ends up being.  Lower time of possession for us most the time means the other team has more and our Defense get's to pay the price for that.

The absolute key to a passing offense and a defense that does not get destroyed by a lopsided time of possession is,,,,,Being able to run the ball!!!!!

If we could run the ball, life could be sooooo much more interesting.

If Nick Saban actually played a QB who could throw the ball and more than 1 WR who can make plays, bama would be nuclear proof..

I'd rather have Morris than Luke. We squeak out 1 win against Kentucky and there are way too many people on Facebook wanting Luke to stay HC. It's unbelievable.

Yep if Touhy pushes for Morris it really ups his chances. I was looking at his record at SMU. In the past 3 years he's 13-20. Another beauty.

In Morris's defense, take a look at the program he took over. Dude has had to rebuild that program from scratch. The year before he took over, they only won 1 game.

Re: Chad Morris from SMU - FYI

I will admit to being a Morris fan.  SMU has never recovered from the SWC debacle when they got the players and the shaft.  He has them on the road back.  He lost to UCF by 7.  Navy is coming up this Saturday.
We will see what his defense can do against the terrible triple option.

He is an offensive wizard and QB builder. Jevan, Watson, Kelley, and the 2 star currently at SMU are prime examples.   That may go a long way to keeping Patterson and Ta...... It certainly doesn't look like Longo will be here next year.

Rock probably knows more than me, but A&M is probably in front of us.

Sean is a good Rebel and let's be real, Hugh brought us some great moments.  But I'd have no problem with Chad Morris as HC.
The ones I'd be pissed at are Bobo, Hopson, Clark and the also rans.

Re: Chad Morris from SMU - FYI

my list of candidates i would not mind is long. My list of candidates I don't want is pretty short.  I am wide open at this point because it will be a crazy december once all the firings happen.  I sincerely doubt we have even started any real progress in the search. we probably only have a list of potentials and some 10,000 foot feeler communications via the search team and the agents to see the level of give a damn candidates have.

But if we don't get this ncaa thing buttoned up this week, it is going to get crappy.  each week the ncaa cloud continues to hover, the more of a stigma we will have to overcome. at the end of the day, I have my favorites, I have my list of guys I would not mind hiring, then there is the settling for list.

man, this sucks
