For some reason I am not. I would have been a couple of years ago.

I dunno man. It would truly be a WAOM moment. Everything is lining up for an outstanding run next season, so if we lost Kiffin, it would be a huge hit. Let's say it's Lanning - does Oregon come after Kiffin at that point? I'm just ready for Alabama to make an announcement - no way they haven't already gotten things lined up.
On a side note, I'm hearing that Saban's wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and that is why he's retiring. I'm hoping that rumor isn't true. Horrible disease.

I don’t think Lanning will leave Oregon, plus a 20 million buyout
If I am Bama I come after Lane first. I have said this the last few years, I have also said this is the only job that I thought Lane would leave OM for.
But since the game has changed with transfer at will, transfer portal (free agency) and NIL, college football has evened out unbelievably. Schools like Bama, tOSU, etc can’t just stockpile talent on the roster and keep them away from schools like OM, etc
Add the playoffs are now going to be 12 teams, Kiffin doesn’t have to go to a place like Bama to have a legit shot at winning a title
So I don’t think it’s the same as it was for Lane just automatically leaving for Bama “if” they were to come to him.

I really do hope Lane stays put. Based on what the Alabama has said, we should know by this weekend what will happen. The waiting game sure does suck though...lol
With Lanning's buyout, I have also heard there's millions in Nike stock that he gets for completing his contract. I'm not sure what Lane's buyout is - I've heard it's around $20 million, but I have no clue if that's accurate at all.
I do think anyone that follows immediately after Saban is setting themselves up for failure unless they immediately win back to back titles.

Looks like Lanning turned down the Alabama job.
Greg McElroy is saying that Lane isn't even being considered (burned bridges?).

I am very happy with what Lane has done here. I believe he has proven he can take a program in the right direction. That being said, I think Bama is going to be looking for a proven winner. And as much as Lane has improved our program He has yet to prove he can beat Bama, Georgia. He has not won a conference championship. I think he will and will have us in contention for a national title, but that is still potential. Bama will not be looking for potential at the top of their list. Sure, if a few turn them down then they may come after him, but I believe they will look for someone with proven track record, not potential, first. May be wishful thinking but there you go.

I'm hearing more and more that we have nothing to worry about with Lane. Kind of reminds me of something he said back in 2022:
“What could you possibly do right if you don’t win the national championship every year?” Kiffin said. “‘You’re going to follow Nick Saban at Alabama?’ No, that would not be a good decision for anyone.”
“I followed two Hall of Fame coaches in Phillip Fulmer and Pete Carroll. Not smart. So, you see how USC ended. (Replacing Saban) would be the dumbest follow ever.”

Whoever gets that job — they’re going to have some big shoes to fill. Being the guy who follows “The Guy” isn’t easy..
There’s been some rumblings out that there’s some burned bridges between Kiffin and Alabama - I have noticed that several national media folks have name’s mentioned as candidates that are above Kiffins….Dan Lanning, Mike Norvell, Steve Sarkisian…
Another thing to keep in mind — Kiffin wins but he’s not for everyone….the Twitter trolling, making his dog into a celebrity, and other “quirks” for lack of a better word….that’s one reason I didn’t think TAMU was ever seriously interested in him. Will that be the case with Alabama? Who knows?
If Kiffin is offered and does leave - it’ll stink especially since it’s another SEC school — but the allure of a top 5 job may be hard to say no to —- but again, its a job with very, very high expectations

Rumor is that someone is is donating a "significant" amount of money for renovations to VHS that had been put on hold.
