Venables would be an interesting hire, for sure. The guy has been a lifelong assistant coach and has always been on winning teams. I'm not sure why I haven't seen his name popping up more often for HC positions.

Yup....and when I think of "lifelong assistant coaches" my mind turns to the poster boy for that..... Cutcliffe....  And we see how  well that worked out.  There is a reason these guys are "lifelong assistants".......

Re: Coach Search

Does anyone see the pattern of hiring a coach, the coach does good, then the coach goes into vacation mode and quits effectively coaching?  Of the last hires, the only coach who has not done this is Tuberville.  Pete Boone made life hard for Tuberville, so he looked for another job and took the Auburn job under the table.

We can't be happy with just a Sugar Bowl. We have to always strive for perfection.

Venables is waiting for Bill Snyder to die or retire again.  Kansas boy.  Played at KState after juco at Garden City.  He is the prototype player they win with at KState.  That is why you see such wild swings in their win totals year to year.
I don't think he will even consider another opportunity.  The only reason he's not still at Oklahoma was Bob Stoops wanted to make room for his brother after he crashed and burned out at Arizona.  All of them have ties to Bill Snyder.  First time he retired they went outside of their mold and hired Ron Prince which was a disaster.  Snyder came back out of retirement and has been there ever since.  Immediately they were winning again.  Craziest shit I've ever witnessed in my life.
In my opinion this is why you don't hear his name very often.
