We're 14-2 with the SEC schedule coming up on Thursday. Just a couple of observations:
1. Offensively, we have looked really good most of the time. Kemp Alderman is a seriously strong dude and absolutely smashes the baseball. We have lots of other first time starters (for us) that have done a really good job. We do seem to struggle with off speed pitches, but overall, I really like this lineup.
We have 8 different players (with at least 40 AB's) hitting .300 or higher.
2. Pitching is a problem. With Elliot being out until next month, we desperately need some guys to step up. We don't have a closer, and for whatever reason, our younger pitchers are struggling badly to find the strike zone. We have a team ERA of 4.54 and a WHIP of 1.43. Meaning, we're gonna be in trouble in SEC play unless our offense can manage to bail us out. We have some talented younger pitchers, but they have to learn to throw strikes. Bianco is giving those younger guys experience, but the struggles on the mound are frustrating.
Baseball season is a long season, and as younger kids gain more experience, they'll improve. But, pitching is a glaring problem this season so far.

I totally agree with your assessment. Pitching is our Achilles heel.

We couldn't be a good high school team tonight, We were pretty pathetic all the way around.

Last year was a cinderella season for Ole Miss. They got hot at the right time and played some really good ball through the final game of the CWS. Don't expect a repeat of last year. It was a combination of luck, talent, and getting hot at the right time. Also, Bianco was backed into a corner and sitting on a keg of dynamite. That is when he performs best and was the scenario for both of his seasons going to Omaha.

We got smacked right in the jaw yesterday. I figured that once the SEC schedule hit, we'd be in trouble. Lack of quality pitchers is a huge concern. Elliot won't be back until next month, and outside of him, we really don't have a SEC quality starter. Daugherty is a good relief guy that can go through the lineup once, but after that, he normally starts to lose it.
Hoping there's some guys, somewhere, that can step up. Else, could be a long season.

0-4 this week. We deserve to be dropped out of the top 25, because frankly, this isn't a top 25 team.
