It is hard to get excited about signing day when most everything is about NIL and unhappy players can simply enter the transfer portal. So much for commitment, loyalty to a school, or being anywhere for the long term. After a few years with NIL and the transfer portal, it will be interesting to see the average years a player stays at any school in addition to the number of times they transfer.

With the portal, NSD just isn't that big of a deal any longer. I think we'll continue to see Lane rely on the portal heavily again this year. Used to, when teams needed immediate help, they'd recruit JUCO kids to fill in the gaps where they really needed help at. The portal has simply replaced the JUCO process. It drags out the entire signing process for way too long, IMO.

Years ago I would have created a list, watched the web, click refresh to see who signed, then check the player off the list. Yesterday I was busy prepping for the sub-freezing temperatures, working on a busted water main in the yard (thank goodness it was on the utility side and not ours), and then driving to our Holiday destination. Last night as we were somewhere near Meridian, it dawned on me that it was signing day. I had completely missed the saga and honestly did not feel like I missed anything. In today's world of college football, it seems like the teams live for the year, and between Dec signing day, Feb signing day, and the portal, nothing will be totally complete until next summer. So much for the signing day activities of the past.

Oh man - right before we moved, the water line busted at our old house (tree roots) and it was on our side of the meter, and that turned into a very expensive bill. Thankfully, the utility folks fixed it for free - so that saved me money. I was just on the hook for the hook for a pretty high water bill.

Yep, back when everyone would have signing day parties. We knew Lane was gonna sign just a small number of kids out of highschool and then hit the Portal hard again - so it's sitting around and waiting months to see who all he picks up. Speaking of which, how in the world is Perkins not a 5 star? He's the #2 LB in the nation and his film and stats are unreal.

Put him in a Bama T-shirt and he automatically becomes a 5-star.

Saw where RaRa is going to Georgia. I was really hoping Lane would be able to snag him.
