Who really wants to coach at Ole Miss? In the past, who were all the big names submitting resumes and requesting interviews for the open position?
Freeze was politically pushed into his position by Tuohy, the Fedex Guy, and Archie. Freeze had been at Ole Miss coaching WRs, but at that time the WRs were not coached well. He was the snitch on Orgeron's staff, who provided information to Pete Boobe. Freeze had very immediate success, but the success went to his head and he often showed that he was not ready for the SEC. Now he has left a mess that is as bad or worse than what Mutt left.
Houston Nutt was a washed out, left over coach who was getting ready to be fired at Arkansas. Once Ole Miss decided to fire Orgeron, there was not much of a search and Mutt was chosen as a head coach. To show his true colors and loyalties, Mutt decided to stay at Arkansas until after their bowl, rather than come to Ole Miss immediatealy and start recruiting. Mutt rode on the coat tails of Orgeron's talented recruits who now had experience. He had back to back Cotton Bowls, but then floundered and went into vacation mode. Houston was fired and sent to the coach's graveyard where he has been branded as a washed up coach. No one has hired Mutt, even at mediocre job openings. Recently he filed a suit against Ole Miss. This will definitely give him another black x whenever he attempts to get another coaching job.
Ed Orgeron was a strange choice for a Head Coach. He was a top recruiter at USC (now who could not sale a young football player on USC and LA) and continues to be a decent recruiter. His coaching skills have improved, but are still not top level. When Orgeron was hired, from what I have been told by sources on the scene, the original plan was to hire Dennis Erickson. Erickson would bring Noel Mazzone with him to Ole Miss and within a few years Erickson would retire and Mazzone would become the head coach. The GOB really liked this plan, even though Mazzone had stabbed Ole Miss in the back while on Tubby's staff. The morning that Erickson was to be potentially hired, Khayak felt Erickson snubbed them at breakfast when he passed their table without speaking. The next thing you know, the Ole Miss hiring team loaded up the jet and went to LA for an interview with Orgeron. Orgeron impressed them with his PowerPoint presentation and the hiring crew felt that Orgeron would recruit good talent to Ole Miss. Orgeron did recruit good talent to Ole Miss, but he was not ready to be a HC. Also he did not fit into the Country Club scene of many of the big donors and GOBs, so he was fired. Fans have to wonder what Orgeron could have done in his fourth year with the talent that he had recruited and developed.
David Cutcliffe was a former OC with some success at Tennessee. He was the choice of Archie Manning and it was known that by hiring Cutcliffe, Eli Manning would most likely play at Ole Miss. Cutcliffe had some good years, but would more than often sit go into protection mode by sitting on a lead and losing the game. He seemed to lose interest in coaching and had a 4-7 season at Ole Miss. Instead of firing staff members who needed to go, Cutcliffe took one for the staff and fell on the sword. He was basically fired by Boobe for insubordination, something that King Boobe did not like because he wanted everyone to know that Pete Boobe is in control!!!
Tommy Tuberville proved to be a decent hire, even though he had no head coaching experience. Tuberville finally got tired of the antics of Pete Boone, who made life extremely miserable to Tuberville and his staff. Suddenly, behind the scenes, Tuberville took a job with Auburn and snuck out of Oxford almost immediately after the Moo U game on a jet bound for The Plains. In his tenure, Tuberville proved to be a good head coach at Ole Miss and other institutions, but he eventually became a washed up coach and has joined Mutt in the coach's graveyard.
Now does anyone really think Ole Miss will put forth a big effort to bring a quality and experienced coach to Ole Miss? In the past there were some coaches started out good, but then went into vacation mode. These coaches knew that the Ole Miss Administration and fans would be okay with mediocre or just above mediocre performances. An occasional big win and lots of drinks in The Grove was extremely acceptable to most Ole Miss fans. It will take a demand from fans for a good coach to be hired. It will take a demand from fans for nothing less than stellar performances to be acceptable. Until the Ole Miss Administration and the Ole Miss fans demand success, then the success will be limited.

DING DING DING^^^^^^^^^^^there it is in a nutshell^^^^^^^^
The question I have is will this season be embarrassing enough (think of the skulldrugging coming on Turkey day night) to get OM to change attitude? Unfortunately I think not..... Oh there will be embarrassment but once we go 7-7 or 8-4 again the pressure will be off and we'll be happy to just compete again.... I've seen it since the day Johnny Vaught walked out of the athletic offices.....
