So Arch Manning officially commits to Texas

Personally I hope we stop hearing about him for a while now — no offense to him or his family, but it’s all gotten old.

Good luck to him and goodbye.  Plenty of other great QBs out there and who knows how they will all develop in college.

I hope Ole Miss stops the Manning worship at this point. The Manning family doesn't look at the University the same way the University looks at the Manning family.

Pretty terrible that he makes the announcement today IMO.  Like he is just poking us in the eye.

Re: So Arch Manning officially commits to Texas

Unfortunately kids today don’t have the same connection yo the Univerities thier family went/played fot.

At A&M we have had that issue for years.  Some of out all time great players have had their kids go to L$U, OU and even texas.

The parents just say, I am not going to make them go here etc. I say BS. You didn’t do a good enough job in your household of promoting your school and making your kid realize how much it means to you for them to follow in your footsteps.

I see non athlete kids follow where their parents went to school without battiya eye. Why? Because it was enforced by the parents that it was important to them

As for the Mannings, I will always be a fan of the family.  Archie was a big part of my childhood.  Eli was a favorite because of Archie. I rooted for Peyton because of the family once he got to the NFL.  Since my family is from Philadelphia home of Olivia, that always made me feel another connection to them.

But at this point OM fans just need to realize the Mannings are a bunch of millionaires and a metropolitan family and their connection to the university will grow more and more distant.  Cooper not having Arch really give OM a chance goes one more step in that direction.

I hate to root against Arch.  But he is now a sworn enemy of mine.  Playing for texas is something I could never root for.  And unlike Peyton, i can never root for Arch if he makes the nfl.  If you are a A&M fan, you don’t root for texas players ever.  Just like OM fans don’t root for M$U players in the nfl.

Arch may find it hard to get on the field for at least his first 2 years.  People forget Quinn Ewers the 5 star QB that graduated a year early to enroll at Ohio State transfered to texas in Jan and from reports, it legit.  He got a million in NIL deal to graduate a year early or he would have been the #1 player in this past 2022 class.  If he only stays 2 years which would make him a RS Soph and then turns pro, Arch would be a RS Freshman at MINIMUM before seeing the field.  At texas most players don’t leave early and with NIL they don’t need to now. Ewers was just given 5 million to transfer there so they won’t let him leave early if he is playing at a high level.  That means Arch might not see the field until his is a RS Soph and possibly a RS Jr.

I know promises have been made, but you can wipe your butt with those once you sign.

Could he transfer after a year or two, sure.  People might say that is not the Manning’s style, I say not so fast.  Remember Archie Eli and San Diego. lol

People like to misrepresent what A&M has done with NIL, but not a peep to actually facts. https://www.si.com/college/texas/football/longhorns-nil-quinn-ewers-aston-martin

Re: So Arch Manning officially commits to Texas

Goodbye, Arch.  For some reason Cooper never pushed him to be a Rebel, and Ellen really did not want her son going to Ole Miss.  She went to Virginia and is a closet LSU fan in order to keep her social connections in NOLA. Peyton is cold with Ole Miss now because he is a product of UT and if you went to UT you automatically hate Kiffin.  Archie has roots and closeness to Ole Miss, but those feelings could become more distant as Arch is in Texas.  Eli is the only true Rebel and there was really not much doubt where he was going to school.

Arch really never seemed to give Ole Miss serious consideration.  His visits were from just being in Oxford and not planned visits.  He also has not been to many of the national player competitions this summer, so that seems to show that either he does not like competition or he is not as good as advertised.  Not having Kiffin as a QB coach and developer is Arch's loss.  If Arch does not want to be a Rebel, then that is his choice, and we don't have to make ourselves pull for him just because he is a Manning.

I agree with everything you said Rock.  But I will say that the average person following in their parents footsteps doesn’t have a bunch of people wining and dining them to go somewhere else, making promises, offering incentives, etc.  That has to make a difference.

Not sure that has anything to do wity it. Arch has been “wined and dined “ his entire life. He is the definition of coming from privilege.

But if that had anything to do with it, which I don’t think it did, OM was lined up to wine and dine him also if he and his parents would have allowed them.

Very well said. For whatever reason, Cooper just didn't really continue to pull for Ole Miss as a fan. Like many of us, we grew up and rooted for teams that our parents were fans of. That just didn't happen with Arch. He never even gave Ole Miss any real consideration. So, screw him - hope he falls flat on his face at Texas. That move really does take away any automatic given respect to the Manning name. I love Eli and Archie (and Olivia), but none of the other Mannings have ever done anything for Ole Miss.
