Luke Altmyer

Luke Altmyer reveals why he has grown so much this spring

After the quarterback for the last two seasons, Matt Corral, elected to call it a college career and enter his name into the NFL draft, the Ole Miss Rebels are looking for a new leader at the position. And one of the likely candidates to assume the role is last year’s backup, Luke Altmyer. After the Rebels’ spring game known as the Grove bowl, Altmyer revealed why he feels he has grown so much during spring practice this year.

“I think I’ve just you know gained so much confidence,” said Altmyer. “I think confidence, for quarterback, is you know the biggest asset and I think last year you know I lacked a lot of it just being new and trying to get comfortable around a bunch of new guys. But, you know, once I got more confident more comfortable with you know my teammates, with my coaching staff it opened so many more doors.”

Altmyer had a fairly decent showing at the Grove Bowl. The soon-to-be sophomore quarterback didn’t thrill with his big arm, which he was recruited for, going 9 of 22 for 182 yards in the game. However, he did impress with his athleticism and mobility after rushing for 77 yards on five carries with two touchdowns.

As of now is anybody’s guess as to who will be the Ole Miss starter at the start of the 2022 season. If Altmyer can continue to grow within the offense, it could very well be his position to lose.

Re: Luke Altmyer

Altmyer should be a good QB with some development.  He was thrown to the wolves in the Sugar Bowl and had a decent outing compared to what he was up against.  Kiffin did a great job with Coral and should do a good job with Altmyer, too.
