Keith should have NEVER extended Kermit's contract. Kermit's style of play doesn't work. AK was "fired" for having these types of results. Having said that, for some reason, Keith seems to like Kermit. I know there were injuries this year, but that's no excuse. Kids are not gonna want to play for a coach that only cares about defense in an empty arena.

Yup it’s bad — and there’s no real reason to believe this staff is going to magically figure things out. I still think he’ll get another year (by no means am I saying he “should” - only will) but next year will be make or break and he doesn’t have the talent (his own doing) to improve and fans are checked out on him and the staff — meanwhile teams like Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas have made efforts to actually improve in basketball
Hell, even MSU appears to be moving on from Ben Howland after this season

Most likely Ole Miss is stuck with Kermit for another year. Kermit is Carter's hire and he will give him extended chances. There will be excuses like injuries and he needs more time. The truth is that he is not capable to be in a big-time league and Ole Miss needs to take a chance with an up-and-coming coach.

This is part of what Kermit said after the Missouri loss:
It's a big boy league, and I get it. But I've got a great A.D. We're going to work day and night to get this thing flipped next year. They've given us every resource to be successful at Ole Miss, so it's right on us. So, we're going to go out and put together a roster that the Ole Miss fans can be proud of. We're going to be right here next year, hopefully playing for seeding in the NCAA Tournament and having a great chance to win it nationally.
Maybe it's just me, but Kermit sounds like he's trying to convince himself. Some say we need to give Kermit another year because he's got a good recruiting class coming in. How many times have we said (in all sports) that next year will be better because Coach X has a really great recruiting class coming in? And how many times has that "great recruiting class" failed to produce the hoped for results on the field or court? In any event, it appears the decision to give Kermit another season has already been made. Finally, I''l just say this: If Kermit really believes we have a chance to win the national championship next year, he's delusional.

Having a good recruiting class does a team no good if they don't have a coach who can develop the players.

One of the reasons that Keith gave for canning Luke was fan apathy. He's nuts if he doesn't recognize that with this basketball program.

I believe he’s staying and I think it boils down to financial reasons - not belief he can turn things around.

In addition to fan apathy, Keith was extremely pressured by many big donors about Elijah Moore's dog pee antics. They thought it was embarrassing, showed no class, and proved that there was little discipline for the players. We should build a statue and memorial to honor Moore's action because this set the ball rolling to fire Luke.

Missouri fired their coach that beat Kermit three times this season. Georgia also fired their coach. Meanwhile, we'll fall further behind.

Meanwhile, in Oxford, Kermit is given a new book of excuses to use, an extension, a raise, and an assurance that he does not need to perform in order to keep his job!!! WAOM!
