Mullen out at Florida

Guess they didn’t want to take a chance on him getting to 6 wins (at the expense of FL State) and saving his job

Re: Mullen out at Florida

This is why when people ask what schools are the "best places to coach," I always say the upper-middle teams like Ole Miss, MSU, Arkansas, etc. If you don't win at the big name programs, your ass is out the door. If I were a coach, I would rather coach forever at a place like Ole Miss or MSU making $3-5 million a year than go two years and done at Florida or LSU making $5-7 million a year.

True — I agree with you. However, I do think if Florida decides to make a play for Kiffin, it’s a very good chance he’ll take it. We’ll see how it all shakes out

Lots of rumors about Kiffin to just about every opening. Kind of wish Lane would just flat out say he's not going anywhere. Can't be good for recruiting.

If I’m Florida - I look at Cristobal at Oregon. Good coach, and while Oregon has all that Nike Money to help pay — they’re still in the PAC 12 which has by far been the weakest of the Power 5 Conferences since the playoff era began

Re: Mullen out at Florida

If Lane does leave I would be more than happy to have Lebby.

I would have to think Florida and LSU, one of them anyways, would go after Napier. I also wonder if LSU would consider Freeze.

Re: Mullen out at Florida

As most know I have had a friendly relationship with Kiffin over the years.  Now, I havent talked to him about this, but in knowing him pretty decent, these are my feeling on the situation.

Miami would be the situation I could see him take a interest in. And there is not a negative reason for him looking when it comes to OM. He already has a beach front home there, loves the area, can recruit a Top 5 team in South Fl, knows he only has to really compete with Clemson in the ACC to win the conference and get into the National playoff. SEC is a much tougher road and South Florida kids are not fired up about Gainesville. Even With Spurrier and Meyer's runs, they did not pull a ton of South Florida studs. Georgia and Clemson have dug into the UF talent recruiting areas along with Bama since Meyer left. Kiffin is no fool, he was lied to by the USC brass and screwed with sanctions they told him would be light. He will only leave Ole Miss for the perfect fit for him and his family. His boys have lived there recently and still have friends there. It aint going to be Florida or LSU. I have a feeling Miami will fire Diaz and the new AD will push for Kiffin. As we have seen in the past, if get the right guy in at Miami and it can compete for titles..  I am sure Kiffin will listen, but again, if he doesnt get everything he wants as far as asst coach salaries, facilities, contract, who he answers to, etc he knows he has a great thing going at OM and won't leave.

If he were to leave, he has the job/program set up for a top of the line candidate.  With the salary, facilities upgrades on the way, etc, OM is in good shape for the future.  Unlike the situation the program was in 2 years ago when he was hired.

I hope he stays selfishly, because I think he fits the OM culture well, OM is my #2 school and I hate turnover.

Re: Mullen out at Florida

The Miami buzz won’t go away — and he may well want to go there, but it’s not a good job IMO…..they don’t have strong administrative support, their “home” stadium is 20 miles away from campus, they don’t have great fan support, and the ACC doesn’t have nearly the lucrative TV deal the SEC has to put money in members’ budgets.

It’s also been a coach killer job —- Larry Coker, Randy Shannon, Al Golden and now maybe Manny Diaz….no one has really succeeded there since Butch Davis and that was around 25 years ago.

I just don’t get why a coach would willingly leave an SEC job not named Vanderbilt (and maybe Missouri) to go there. They’re like Nebraska — they had a heyday but that ship has long since sailed.

Again, just my opinions — Kiffin may be willing to crawl over broken glass to coach there —- I don’t know.

I'm not trying to be a prick, but I'm not impressed with Lebby's play calling.  We still have that same old problem of getting inside the 10 and struggling.  We insist on running up the gut and "usually" get stuffed.  We get a lead and act like we are afraid to keep pressing.  We went way vanilla yesterday and if the cards had fallen the wrong way in the last 8 minutes of that game, we could have gotten beat.  We act like we are afraid to keep out foot on the gas.  His play selection sure hasn't showcased Corral.
