this one surprised me at the timing. I thought Gary might retire, but this sounds like they flat out pressed him to make a decision so they could start on the search because texas tech got the jump.

One of the top candidates for the Tech job and would have been for the TCU job is Jeff Traylor the HC at UTSA. He is a HS coacing legent here in Texas, I think he won 5 state titles at Gilmer, a school here in East Texas. He left Gilmer about 5 years ago and went to Texas as a asst then to SMU and then Ark, then got the HCing job at UTSA last year. Even dealing with covid in his first year he took them to a Bowl game and Bowl win and a 7-5 record. Has them undefeated this year 8-0. Great coach and recruiter with great instate ties. UTSA has only played football for 15 years and last year their only 2nd bowl game.
UTSA saw what he has done in a short time not only on the field and fundraising for facilities and today signed him to a 10 year contract extension for 28 million. A huge number for a non power 5 school. I know him pretty well and he has bigger goals that a texas tech and now that he is financially secure, he can be patient and if he keeps having the success like he is, will be in demand for a good power 5 job in a few years.
his buyout is steep the next few years for most schools, other than a top of the line, top 25 type power 5 job. 7.5 million after next year, 7 million after than, then 1 million less each year after.
I would not be surprised to see TCU come after Lebby, he is from that area, HS coach at Stephenville, which is in the shadows of TCU and FT Worth. After so many years of a defensive HC at TCU in Patterson, I would think they are going for a offensive guy now.
I have said in the past, Lebby is a good coach, but if I am a OM fan, not worried if he leaves with Lane here.

Gary Patterson seemed to be THE dream hire for so many schools about 10 years ago. He stayed put and TCU has been trending downward toward mediocrity.

Rock1Aggie - do you think Sonny Dykes will get consideration from either TCU or Texas Tech?

What do you think of Gary Patterson as a consultant or DC at Ole Miss?

Patterson schooled Freeze in the Peach Bowl but I personally can't stand Patterson.

Yes, Art Briles and Dykes are both high on the list.
Both Grads, Briles quit his HS job after last season to lobby for the job with boosters. After the real report on the Baylor situation came out and basically said Briles was not the issue at Baylor, he has been more likely to get another D1 job. All those reports when he was fired by the law firms hired by baylor, surprisingly Blamed Briles when the issues were the AD/Administration/Local and Campus police, boosters..
who would have thought that initial report would try and protect the people who hired you.
i am still not a fen of briles as a person as I know him well and al the way back to when he was a HS coach

Would be great, but I dont see him doing anything except cashing the rest of the TCU checks, but he is only 61. So I would think someone would hired him as a HC
I think he had like 3 years left on his contract at 5.1 million a year
