No guts from Luke

I can name about 10 times Sat nite that he showed no guts in going for it or from Longo in play calling.

I warned about Longo many times, so i will not beat on him.

But Luke not going for it on 4th and short on that first drive was pathetic.  Was he just hoping to keep the game close and say we played hard.

Then on another FG had the same deal. Then when it was 23-16 on a 3rd and 6 he runs the damn counter.  Throw the damn ball.

If anything that game alone should show Luke does not have the balls to be the HC. HE would rater play safe and hope not to get embarrassed that go for the throat and win.

Note to Luke, you have a team that is not going to a bowl game, you take chances to WIN!

Re: No guts from Luke

I've heard some rumblings about Longo's contract and such where it gives him total control of the offense meaning Luke has no say.  From what I have gathered they have not seen eye to eye and Luke has gone to Bjork about it to discuss solutions.
Totally hearsay but makes for an interesting thought regarding our play calling and tension on the staff.
Have to think all of them Luke included are spending as much time looking for their next resting place as they are coaching these kids at this point.
I am reminded of your warnings Rock every time I hear Longo's name.  You nailed that one long ago.
See what I did there?

How are things at A&M with Sumlin?  Think he's done enough to buy another year?

Re: No guts from Luke

Although Luke has shown that he is not a true head coach, there are people at Ole Miss who think different.  They believe that Luke does not have the talent and needs time to develop players.  This is the kind of attitude that will get fans stuck with Luke either as HC or as a coordinator.  To be an effective winner, Ole Miss needs to totally clean house and start with a fresh head coach who is able to hire his own staff.  Time will tell how this situation is handled.

Agree. We need to dispense with the holdover staff from the Freeze era.  Go out and hire somebody capable as HC and let him bring in a competent staff. We need a clean break and a fresh start.

Re: No guts from Luke

Rock is absolutely correct. Luke probably kept thinking "keep it close". But, with how this season has gone, with no possibility of a bowl, you play each game like it's your last and as if it's the most important game on your schedule. You have to man up and go all out.

I do feel back for McGriff though. I like him and I have no problem with the defensive scheme. It's beyond obvious that he is lacking talent to play with though. He pretty much alluded to that today during the conference (he wasn't making an excuse with that).

I'm still pissed Shea was put back into the game and that is 100% on Luke. Whether or not the trainers thought he couldn't hurt his knee any worse, you could tell Shea was off and Ta'amu was being effective with the offense. Don't put an injured QB out there behind that damn OL Luke!!!!!!! If he's hurting, okay, that's one thing. But injured - hell no.

Re: No guts from Luke

Luke seems very content with moral victories and a "hard playing team." I'm want to ruin someone else's season. It's all we have to play for.
