they still need work. Although Austin Peay didn't score a lot, I wasn't happy that we allowed them to march a few times. We should have been able to force a lot of 3 & outs. That didn't really happen. That concerns me. Tulane has been blazing on offense. I'm not saying that we will lose to them, but they may further expose weaknesses in our defense.

We were pretty sloppy overall but there were at least two drives extended by ghost calls. One of those drives resulted in them scoring a TD.

Same back judge made two "late flag" interference calls and called one incomplete pass (TD) while looking through the receiver. The nearest referee on the interference calls did not throw a flag either time. I'm not saying this official was bias BUT he makes a great case for it. I use to call HS football games, go to rules clinics, etc., and I've been in groups where I heard so called "SEC" officials state that they "look" for things to call on Ole Miss because they just don't like the school. It just seems like every year, the Rebels get a number of bad calls, especially when playing Alabama or Auburn (like the "no review needed" on the kickoff TD last year - game changer).
Yes, I think we played somewhat sloppy against Austin Peay but I also know we only had 1 day of practice. No excuses needed but the Rebels will have to get up tempo to beat Tulane especially on defense. We can't afford to drop passes or miss scoring opportunities and they will have to have plenty of 3 and outs on defense with very few big plays allowed. Our schedule gets tough from here on out. The Rebels will have to "tighten the belts" and get after it.

The defense did look more physical and active to me. Still some blown assignments and such but improvements non the less, looks better. We won’t know how much better until we see some better competition
