He wrote an article last night in which he took several personal shots at Orgeron. I responded and told him I thought it was unprofessional and I do to put something like that in print.
Lots of butthurt that the man they ran off after treating beyond bad kicked their asses again last night and made them like it. Now he will have some quality bulletin board material for next season when we have to go there. Nice.
Chuck responded with some weak ass bullshit about not being able to say what he felt about Orgeron when Orgeron was the coach there. Likely because he would have gotten his ass kicked. Lol. Chuck claims he would have lost his job if he had told what he knew. We all know that is bullshit. Then goes on to say he "vowed" to never let anything like what he witnessed go unreported again. Sure pal. What a spineless statement.
I'm sorry to say that I love the reaction. The worst thing imaginable has happened to those who hated and even worse treated Orgeron so poorly when he was here. Orgeron walks away smiling and still gainfully employed at his dream job. Their prized pony is burning white hot in an epic meltdown. Now that is some poetic justice if I have ever witnessed it.
Tough medicine for the sunshine pumpers and Chuck's article is proof positive of the mentality "we are better than you" in which you lower yourself to that level to write those things. It's one thing to say them in general conversation but to put them in print in unacceptable.
My opinion of course. I don't expect it to be liked or shared by others. However I am embarrassed as an Ole Miss fan that one of our own media guys would stoop to this level of bush league attacks. Again the issue I have is that it was in print in an article. Not some message board drivel like this.

I agree with you that it would have been better for Chuck to avoid the personal insults. That being said, I'll also say this. I was and still am friends with the family of a player when Orgeron was there. What Chuck said in his response to you about the "tyrant" stuff, etc. was absolutely true. The noted psychiatrist Abraham Maslow said: "If the only tool you have in your tool box is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail." That is a strikingly accurate description of Ed Orgeron when he was head coach at Ole Miss.

Totally agree and even Orgeron has admitted to it and said he has learned from his mistakes. Question is why haven't our fans and media, in Chuck's case, moved on and let it go? Personally attacking the HC at a rival school immediately following getting your ass kicked is sour grapes bush league.
Obviously I wasn't there to witness what some say occurred. I did witness how many of our fans and the local and national media attacked him from day one. That was long before Orgeron gave them any ammo to justify their actions. This behavior is simple piling on after the fact and it's sad. Orgeron wrinkled lots of complacent asses when he was hired and what they didn't see at the time and some still don't is that was exactly what was needed and unfortunately needs to be done again. We need to be cleaned to the core.
I don't begrudge Orgeron for anything he did. I can't imagine what it would be like to finally get the job you've wanted as a Head Coach near home and family only to immediately be under attack at every corner. Kind of like we as Ole Miss fans feel now with the NCAA cloud, moou daily attacks, etc but the key being Orgeron was attacked by our own fans...

I subscribed to the Spirit when it first came out so I go way back to the time when Mac Gordon and a guy who called himself "The Eternally Optimistic Col Rebel" (I think he was a lawyer but don't recall his name off the top of my head as he never appeared using his real name) were the main players/writers. Chuck was there too. Of the 3 Chuck was always the least critical of the program. "The Colonel" was my favorite because he pulled no punches.
When Chuck bought out the others there was a marked change in the coverage. It shifted to an 'don't offend the powers that be under any circumstances' approach. It was quite obvious that gained him access and that IMO was soon co-opted by the administration to push their narrative out to the fanbase.
You won't hear Chuck ever dress down the program. The only time I can ever remember him 'attacking' anything was when he went off on a group in the grove who had set up and were displaying their flag...Chuck went after them in a screaming rant from what I was told.
After that I tolerated the Spirit for several years because it was about the only choice available although Dave had the original OMSN for a while that tended to call a spade a spade....at least it did until he sold out to Rivals. That's why I was happy when he resurrected the site for a while.
I just got sick of the sunshine pumpers on the Spirit dispensing kool aid (not so much Chuck as the flying Lyceum monkees who would attack any criticism with a vengeance) and finally let my subscription expire. I knew to take what Chuck was saying as something pretty much filtered by the administration but it did serve get some information if you picked through it.....
So, all that said....I wouldn't waste time calling Chuck out....it's his "Dojo" after all.....and he's an old dog that won't change his 'spots'....just read and know it's the adm position and you might be able to pick a few pearls up.....

Chuck was part of the group that supported Mazzone and wanted to oust Orgeron. While at Ole Miss, Orgeron was treated badly by the administration, fans, and big donors. Orgeron has had many chances to say negative things about Ole Miss, but he remained silent.
At one time on Dave's board, I posted about the MooU bus trip from Starkville where Chuck and his group rented a separate bus for the Mazzone croneys. If you do not remember the story, or did not read it, I will post it again by request.

Col. Rebel was Josh Bogen, a lawyer from Leland. Josh told me that he quit doing the "Col. Rebel" column in the old Spirit because he started getting a lot of criticism and even some threats. He said--as you noted--that he was very frank in his statements and opinions. That did not sit well with some of the Spirit readers of the time.

Thanks Johnny. I rarely if ever post on there for that reason and the only reason I keep the sub is to do just what you suggest, sift the bs for a few pearls.
That said it was the public nature of the post that drew my ire. I get that everyone is upset. Some more than others. I don't like nor appreciate the fact that words in print represent all of us and that doesn't represent me. I'm sure I do more in any given day to not be representative of others but I hold no position of influence. Lol.

Share away Catfish...
I am fairly familiar with the story but never hurts to be rehashed as we have a way of forgetting important parts of history in our quest to be our own worst enemy.

Semper.... If you talk to Josh again tell him that he still has 'fans' who were extremely grateful for his frankness...he is sorely missed....and his departure probably began my path to leave that site......it turned into pablem without him there to speak out.

Fish....I remember that very well.... The Mazzone mafia almost killed our program and I'm guessing many of that same bunch are at it again....
