Had one of my players apt burn down this afternoon

Great kid and it's just him and his mother. They are getting help from the Red Cross and some local churches. I would like to raise a little money just for him so he can go buy some clothes, boots, etc. The charitable organizations always do great at making sure the families get clothed and fed, but they don't really go into teenage "style" I didn't add the kids first name out of some semblance of privacy. If that holds you back from donating, I understand.  Great kid I just had to sit down and tell this too. Very soft spot with me as my home burned down when I was 11 and it was devastating. I am sure there will be other fund raisers for the family, etc, but I just wanted to do something for the kid and as most know, us coaches don't make a ton. Thanks and I will take a few photos on whatever we get him.

Oh man, I hate hearing that. Glad they were able to get out safe. Couldn't imagine having all of my stuff just gone one day like that.

You're welcome.  Fire is a very devastating life event.  I hope he and his family is able to recover.  About GoFundMe, does the recipient get 100% of the funds or does someone have to pay a percent to GoFundMe?

Re: Had one of my players apt burn down this afternoon

Thanks again, I am going to close the goFundMe tomorrow night. Have been able to get him clothes, shoes, boots, etc. When the amount went over, I decided to use the rest to pay rent for their new place when they found one.  They moved in today to the new place and after giving money for one months rent, other faith based organizations have helped tremendously, I will have about enough for 1/2 another months rent.  If I can get another $275 by the time I close the fundraiser, I will give the landlord a check for Sept's rent. If not, i will just give the landlord what I have.     The mom has just been in shell shock since this happened, but broke down in tears. Said to give her thanks to everyone.  My player played last night in our first scrimmage, amazed he was so focused with everything going on.  He is so humble and grateful.

Thanks again

He sounds like a fine young man.  His mother has obviously done a great job raising him.
