I was thinking about the whole NIL thing last night....
Imagine a 5 star QB with a P5 school picks up a huge endorsement from Acme, Inc. as soon as he signs. Kid immediately goes out and purchases a $60k car, thinking he's just gonna roll in the money. A couple weeks before the season starts, it becomes apparent that he's not gonna get the starting position and appeared to be all hype and Acme, Inc. is having buyer's remorse. The kid doesn't care - he's still cashing checks with the deal he signed.
Towards the end of his freshman year, the kid ends up doing what college kids do - goes to a party, has too much to drink, and gets pulled over in his shiny car on the way back home. Cops bust him for DUI and also possession of pot. Acme, Inc is thrilled - they point out a morality clause in the deal that was signed and the money stops coming in - maybe they also demand their money back due to breach of contract. Suddenly, this 18 year old realizes he still owes $50k on that car and didn't withhold any of the money for taxes that he owes on those checks he had been cashing and blowing. and has a huge tax bill in front of him as well while being flat broke and massively in debt.
I can imagine the above scenario playing out multiple times....

This is a good scenario that you indicated. Players will be getting paid like being in the pros. Other team members may resent it, too. For instance, a lineman who is getting little publicity is the main one blocking for a top-caliber RB or QB. Maybe they just decide to quit blocking or a group of linemen decides to quit blocking, too. NIL will ruin college football as we know it and suddenly these young players become hot shots and don't know how to handle being in the limelight.
