JRP's football future

"We did. We conversated.(JRP and Kiffin) We had a conversation after baseball season, before I got to go home just for a little bit," Plumlee said. "We had a talk and he basically said that they want to use me in multiple, different spots. Whatever that may be, whatever that may look like, whether it's receiver, running back coming out of the backfield, a little bit of quarterback. Whatever helps the team win, I think is the phrase he used."Whatever will help the team win is what we're going to do. It was a good conversation. I prayed on it, and I thought it was the right thing to do. It's going to be a lot of fun."How important was the conversation with Kiffin in settling things for Plumlee.
"I think it was really important. To be able to have those...not necessarily tough conversations...but conversations where you need information. What is the plan going to be for me. It's hard, because I don't want to be selfish. You never want to be selfish when you're on a team like this. I kind of had to evaluate what the plan was going to be for me. Now that there is one set in place, it's completely concrete about what I'm going to do. There are plans to utilize me. That is what I'm excited about," said Plumlee.
With that said, definitively, Ole Miss plans to use a willing Plumlee as an all-purpose offensive weapon this season. "I don't know exactly what it's going to look like. I do know it will be whatever is best to help the team win, so I'm excited about that," Plumlee related. How does Plumlee prepare his mind for fall camp when he knows he will be employed at multiple positions and possibly remain the team's No. 2 quarterback?"I think the best thing to do is to prepare as though you're the starting quarterback," Plumlee said. "I think in that position you know what everybody is doing. If you play running back or if you shift to receiver, a lot of times guys will kind of get caught up with, 'Hey, this is what I've got. This is the route I have.' But I think if I prepare like a quarterback and know what everybody is doing at all times, I think that will put me in the best position to be able to go and do a lot of things. Whether it's running back, wide receiver, quarterback...whatever it is... I know my job on the plays that are given me to run."

Did the Bowl game help Plumlee make the decision to be willing to play multiple positions this fall?"I kind of new. I feel as though I can be successful in many things. That was one of the things I thought I could be successful at. When the opportunity arose and I had the opportunity to do so, it worked out well. But yeah, I think I can say it helped in making a decision. I think, yeah. I think that game helped me to make the decision," Plumlee shared.

"Thankfully I had a get away (with baseball)," he said. "I didn't get to play as much as I wanted to last year, and as a competitor, it was really frustrating to sit and kind of wait for an opportunity. But an opportunity arose late in the year. Going into baseball I had to kind of get my mind off of it. I focused on baseball. I could be a baseball player during baseball season. Once baseball rolled around, I got focused on baseball. It wasn't like I was at baseball thinking on what was going to happen with football. I think it's always been like that, whether it was for football or baseball, for me. If I'm doing one and one is frustrating, I know when I go to the other season that it's kind of a getaway. I think it helped a little bit just to be able to get away and get your mind off things, especially when you have the opportunity to play baseball at a high level like this. It helps a lot. I really didn't think a whole lot about things. I didn't sit and ponder during baseball season about what football was going to look like. I was all-in on baseball when it was baseball season, and now I've flipped the switch and I'm all in on football."

"The way to describe it is it was hard. It was tough. It was a tough year for me. I kept finding strength in Proverbs 3, 5 and 6. It says trust in the Lord with all of your heart not on your own understanding. With all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will guide your path. I just kept finding strength in that verse. That's what I had to do. I had to trust in Him, because I felt as though I was doing all that I could do. At that point, I had to give it to the Lord," Plumlee shared."Last year, you can say wasn't my year. I didn't get utilized as much as I wanted to, but we'll see what the plan is and God's plan for me this year."This is home...My buddies are here. Baseball was huge for me. A lot of it went into my decision. I had to do some praying about it...I had wants. Did I want to play more? Yeah, that's there. The idea that I could play somewhere else, obviously comes into your head. I just had to keep going back to Proverbs 3."

Re: JRP's football future

Plumlee reminds me of Michael Spurlock.  Probably one of the best athletes to step on the field but just not a sec qb. It’s like hitching up a horse trailer to a mustang gt .   Let the stand free and it will perform and hopefully yes, “help the team win”
