Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork hinted that the NCAA has set a date for the football program's meeting before the Committee on Infractions.
Bjork, appearing on the Head to Head radio show with Matt Wyatt and Richard Cross on Super Talk Mississippi Thursday, alluded to Ole Miss having received the date it will appear before the committee. Though Bjork did not give the date, speculation has centered on the middle of September.
"We don't publicly have a date. We're supposed to keep that confidential, but I think that news will come out through public records requests or however that comes out," Bjork said.
Bjork also said he expects former head coach Hugh Freeze will appear before the committee.
"That's our anticipation. That's what we've heard at this point in time," Bjork said.
"We (Ole Miss and Freeze) are aligned from the standpoint of we have a case, and it is documented where we believe that he ran the program to meet our expectations on the compliance side. And that's how you have to approach it."
Ole Miss should receive final penalties from the NCAA within 6-8 weeks of the hearing, according to Bjork. The program is charged with 21 violations with 15 of those classified as Level I or most serious.
Bjork also spoke on the pending defamation lawsuit filed against the university by former head coach Houston Nutt.
"One, we don't think the case has merit," Bjork said. "We didn't do anything wrong, so an apology, we don't think is worthy. Two, the thing we're being accused of, they're doing. They're campaigning in public creating a lot of false information that's out there."
