My wife and I are selling our home and are going to be moving to either New Albany or Oxford. I work from home as a software developer, so my only requirement is really just high-speed internet.
Any suggestions for areas of Oxford to avoid?

I just don’t care for Oxford anymore — it’s gotten to overcrowded and real estate is really high. I’d consider New Alabany, there’s not a lot to do there as it’s a smaller town but it is close to Tupelo, which I actually like more than Oxford. If I ever leave Desoto County, Tupelo is where I’d like to go.
Wherever y’all choose to go, I hope y’all find a place you really like — listings are so scarce right now (well at least last I looked they were)

Check out Water Valley. You are close to Oxford and have a nice small community for living. Water Valley has made lots of positive growth progress over the past few years and real estate is affordable.

Thanks for the suggestions. We currently live in Dorsey and are wanting to live somewhere closer to civilization (being able to order a pizza, have actual cell phone service, fiber/cable internet is a must).

My daughter and son-in-law and their two sons live out east of Oxford off of Hwy 6 towards Pontotoc. Nice new area about 5 miles out. It's called Pebble Creek, just past The Lakes area. All new homes and not that expensive compared to prices in Oxford. My daughter is Senior Counselor and her husband is Assistant Coach and Math teacher in Oxford HS. They absolutely love it. Sure, Oxford has changed but they can always use more "positive" influences to help turn the tide back in the right direction.

Oxford has really changed since my first trip there and my college days. Living outside of the major city center would be good. Real Estate prices are very high. One time I asked a realtor how they priced things with such variations. She indicated they put up a sign, set a price, and see if someone will pay it.

Look in the College Hill area. It's away from students but still Oxford. You also have a straight shot to Sardis. My mother lives in the area near Quail Creek. It's quiet and with the Oxford Loop road, you can get to anywhere in town relatively quick.
