That certainly came out of nowhere. I know we have a ton of DB's on the roster, and a large number of LB's as well. I wonder if it being so crowded attributed to his transfer, or if something else was going on.

It's ALL about the money $$$. There's no such thing as tampering unless OM is involved, then there are penalties, loss of scholarships and probation involved for the illegal contacts.
I'll be surprised if Jones hasn't been contacted by someone offering more money for use of "his name" on behalf of their university, more prestige and a higher ranking with more money when he goes pro.
The new transfer rule, payments to athletes, etc. are going to end college football as we knew it. Forget education and academics. Schools with the money will pay athletes a lot more and money schools will pick and choose their elite teams each year. Student athletes will forget allegiance and school pride and loyalty to coaches, schools and alumni. Athletics programs will be a separate entity from the schools they represent as student athletes will now be considered to be "employees" of the university. Top athletes will be able to receive more money because of their ability to "provide service" for the school. Less talented athletes will receive less money or receive pay cuts and therefore will exit through the "Transfer Portal." The top athletes will be contacted by the larger "money" schools and will enter the "Transfer Portal" in order to see how much their "stock" is worth at other schools. The larger "money" schools will go "fishing" each spring and summer to fill rosters with the best athletes "money can buy." 
I may be wrong but I believe college football will be a "joke" in a few years. Coaches will leave several "scholarships" open at signing day in order to save roster room for a "few" needed transfers. College football will now see unbelievable multi-transfers and multi-roster changes each year up to the beginning of the fall season.  There will be NO room for the student, the person, or an education.
What we are seeing and experiencing right now is only the beginning. I believe the number of transfers this yea is only the tip of the iceberg. It will be and is all about the MONEY $$$ and GREED !!! College athletics as we knew it will be a "joke" and a thing of the past. I hope I'm wrong.

Money, player endorsements, and player unions will most likely ruin college football as we once knew it.  It seems that most players and many people do not realize the cost and importance of a good college degree.  They also do not understand the important connections they are making for a successful career.  It would have been nice for someone to have paid for my tuition, books, lodging, and food.  A good value for both undergraduate and graduate degrees, to include tuition, books, food, and lodging would easily be between $75k and $100k.
