I guess someone things 40 wins is a big deal, but when you play 28-30 non conference game against mainly inferior teams, doesnt do much for me. It's what I can the ole Nebraska football effect and in recent years under Mullen and now Leach, the Miss St effect. Schedule trash non conference games to boost up your record.  Mullen was great at it at MSU and Leach was CFB's best at it at Texas Tech and has followed that now at Miss St. The 2021 schedule was made before Leach had and say in it, but watch in 2022 on beyond how the opponents from, Morehead  was just happy to have the job so he had no say in the schedule.. Osborne was the best of his time in the 70's,80's and 90's..
