Seattle Seahawks sign DT Robert Nkemdiche
Just before the start of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks have added some depth to their defensive line. The team announced that it has signed free agent defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche.
In the 2016 NFL Draft, Nkemdiche was taken by the Arizona Cardinals with the No. 29 overall pick. In his first couple of NFL seasons, Nkemdiche struggled to carve out a role for himself as he totaled just 12 tackles and one tackle for loss between 2016 and 2017. In the 2018 season, Nkemdiche suffered a season-ending knee injury. In 2019, which was the best season of his career, he was waived by the Cardinals following a failed physical.
The Miami Dolphins signed Nkemdiche to a one-year contract in August of 2019, but he played in just two games for the team and was waived in November of that year.
Nkemdiche wasn’t with an NFL team at all in the 2020 season, so the Seahawks are taking a shot on a player who showed tremendous potential at the college level. In his entire NFL career, Nkemdiche has tallied 44 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks.
Coming out of high school, Nkemdiche was a five-star recruit and the No. 1 overall player in the 2013 signing class, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings. In his final season at Ole Miss, Nkemdiche earned first-team All-SEC honors and second-team All-American honors.
