We certainly appreciate your information.  Now to get a good DL coach.  You had mentioned Jimmy Brumbaugh as a potential DL coach.  Do you think this is a reality or could there be other coaches in play?

I would say right now it is a 75% chance Jimmy is the new DL coach at OM.

From my understanding, OM and the powers that be are just making 10000000000% sure he is clean from all the BS that is going on at Tenn.  They are 99.999999999999999% sure he is clean, but just making sure. he wasnt there long,  part of the spring that was dead, the summer which was dead and 4 games..

Auburn Hired Will Friend that was at Tenn thru all this stuff, with very little back, but of course Auburn  hired Bruce Pearl after about getting Tenn Basketball the death penalty.  And then Auburn was surprised when he brought that same death penalty program to the plains.

So, I have no problem with OM going the extra mile to just make 1000000% sure there is nothing there.

If something happens with Jimmy, I really think Watson is a star in the making at the DL position as a coach.  Hope OM can keep him in some capacity for another year, but he will be a Power 5 DL coach SOON.

Re: Finley

So Jimmy interviewed Monday and Trickett interviewed Wed.   I would expect a announcement pretty soon, probably Monday

Re: Finley

In somewhat of a surprise to me, John David Baker hired as TE coach.

Texas kid that is in that line of air Raid type guys.  Was a GA at UNT under current USC OC Graham Harrell and was the TE coach at USC this past season.

I dont know him, but know several people that were on the staff with him at UNT and coached him at Abilene Christian when he played there.  All speak very highly of him. Think its a GREAT hire.

https://footballscoop.com/news/breaking-lane-kiffin-ole-miss-add-southern-cal-assistant/BREAKING: Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss add Southern Cal assistantBy John Brice - January 22, 2021
Look out, Southeastern Conference.Lane Kiffin just keeps assembling an all-star staff. After earlier securing offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby with a raise and contract extension, Kiffin is raiding one of his former employer’s – Southern California – for one of college football’s brightest young stars.John David Baker, whose ascension from Abilene Christian to major Power-5 football has been lightning-quick, has accepted the role of tight ends coach and passing game coordinator at Ole Miss, per sources familiar with the move.A former quarterback at Abilene Christian, Baker has absolutely soared up the ranks of college football. He spent two years as a coach at his alma mater, three years helping North Texas and the past two seasons at Southern Cal – most recently as the Trojans’ tight ends coach. Now he’s joining Kiffin’s staff that’s among the most energetic and up-and-coming young staffs in college football. Offensive coordinator Lebby had fielded interest for multiple years from major Power-5 conferences, nearly landing the Tennessee offensive coordinator position two years ago, and even elicited some head coaching interest during this cycle. Baker has experienced a similar surge in his career path. He had been a candidate at other SEC schools and various Power-5 outposts during the past six weeks, but it was the allure of joining Kiffin’s staff that prompted Baker to accept the position on Kiffin’s staff in Oxford, Mississippi.

Re: Finley

It is good that Lane has the connections and abilities to hire good assistants.  The past coaches did not possess this trait.  Luke simply hired friends or acquaintances and Freeze would not hire anyone who would over shadow him.  Kiffin was a great hire for Ole Miss and has done a great job.  Now Ole Miss will need to do whatever it takes to keep him happy in Oxford.
