Those were huge. But not having any way to cover Boutte was the key. Durkin tried every defense in the book. Still had nobody that coukd cover. This recruiting class will help that a ton.
When you have to score every drive, it makes you take chances and u make effort mistakes. I blame most of the turnovers on the defense of OM.
Corral got OM a 48-40 lead. The defense shit the bed
OM had the lead 48-46 and the ball with 5 min left. You know your defense cant stop them But went conservative and punt with 3 min left. I was screaming at the tv. Lsu was tired as OM had scored tds on 4 straight drives.
Did that against Auburn too and it cane back to bite them. OM up 28-27 with 5 min left with the ball. Goes 3 and out with 2 runs that lose yards thrn incomplete pass. OM punts from the 50 and punts in into the endzone for a touchback. Terrible punt. Then Auburn gets the ball back with 2:30 left and in a few plays roast the no talent (thanks Luke) secondary for a 58 yd td.
OM gets ball with min left and corral throws a pick to end it.
I am a huge Kiffin fan as all know. But i blame those possessions on him and Lebby. In both those games.
Corral had the lead in both games and the ball with 5 minutes to play and OM tried to sit on the ball.

Its tough at the end of the game when you go conservative and the other team basically knows what you are going to do. The offense should have opened up and run an unexpected play to keep the drive alive. Well, it is what it is and hopefully Kiffin and staff will right the ship with the new recruiting class. There is no doubt that Fluke did a horrible job as head coach. The Ole Miss defense is proof positive of his recruiting tactics and past coaching.

Also on Corral, not only did he have to score EVERY possession, he is playing with guys he hasnt really had to count on all year with Yeboah and Moore out. 113 receptions and 14 tds not there. Corral had 185 completions going into the game yesterday and 24 tds. So 61% of his receptions were gone, and 58% of his TD passes
Add it is pouring rain.
All things to think about when you see your Rebel brethren on other boards slamming Corral. Go defend him with FACTS.
THe next 2 years with him will be fun for OM fans with a better defense and some more offensive threats

The offense should have just kept the foot on the gas and gone down and scored again, kicked the extra pt, be up by 9 with maybe a min left, ball game.
I just dont lay the blame on Corral like I see so many doing, he was far far down the list of why OM lost

Don't get me wrong - I'm not putting the blame on Corral. I 100% believe that 2nd to last drive was what cost us the game. I mentioned in a different thread that us going conservative cost us the game. I remember Freeze talking about how changing the pace of a HUNH offense throws the offense completely off. And, when I saw what Kiffin/Lebby were doing, I had no doubt that was going to cost us the game.
Corral is a young player and he was pressing so much in the 1st half. I think not having Moore and Yeboah really messed with him. He started locking into receivers (like what we saw during the Arkansas game). He'll learn and improve.
I'm pretty excited about next year's team. With the transfers and JUCO kids, I think our defense will take a big step forward. That'll take some of the pressure off of our offense.
