Ole Miss offensive notes: Corral stands alone in SEC history

Ole Miss offensive notes: Corral stands alone in SEC history

The final numbers are in on the Rebels’ epic offensive showing at Vanderbilt on Saturday. And, yeah, they’re staggering. Let’s take a look, courtesy of Ole Miss Sports Information.

- Ole Miss quarterbacks threw for a school-record seven touchdown passes (six by Matt Corral and one by John Rhys Plumlee) ... The previous record was six (Sept. 17, 1960 vs. Houston; Nov. 3, 2001 vs. Arkansas).

- Corral became the first player in SEC history to finish a game with six passing touchdowns and a 90 percent completion percentage.

- The Rebels produced 35 first downs and 641 yards of total offense … The first downs fell one shy of the school record, while the yards were the second-most ever in an SEC game (647 vs. Alabama earlier this year).

- Ole Miss scored touchdowns on eight of its first nine drives … The only one that did not result in a touchdown was a bad snap on the final play of the first half.

- Ole Miss scored a season-high 54 points, the most in an SEC game since a 57-35 victory over Vanderbilt (Oct. 14, 2017).

- Corral completed 31-of-34 passes for 412 yards and six touchdowns … Corral's 91.2 completion percentage was an SEC record with a minimum of 30 attempts, tying Tennessee's Joshua Dobbs.

- Corral completed 19 consecutive pass attempts to begin the game, breaking Eli Manning's school record (2001 vs. Murray State).

- Corral's six touchdown passes tied Eli Manning's single-game record (Nov. 3, 2001 vs. Arkansas) .... It is the most TDs in regulation as five of Manning's six touchdowns in 2001 came in OT.

- Corral threw for a career-high 412 yards, his first 400-yard game and fourth 300-yard game of the season as well as his career.

- Elijah Moore hauled in 14 receptions for 238 yards and three touchdowns, all school records … The receptions tied a school record alongside AJ Brown (Nov. 11, 2017 vs. Louisiana) and Laquon Treadwell (Oct. 17, 2015 vs. Memphis) … The previous record for yards was 233 by AJ Brown (Sept. 2, 2017 vs. South Alabama) … A Rebel has had a game with 3 receiving TDs 10 times throughout history.

- Moore's game was the sixth time a Rebel WR had at least 200 yards receiving … Moore has two of those games, the only Rebel to accomplish that in school history ... He joined AJ Brown as the only Ole Miss WRs with multiple 200-yard receiving games over a career.

- It was Moore's 8th 100-yard receiving game of his career (fourth this season), passing Evan Engram for fifth most by an Ole Miss Rebel.

- Moore moved to fifth on all-time receptions list (164), passing Evan Engram (162) and Donte Moncrief (156).

- Moore also cracked the Ole Miss' top 10 in career receiving yards (2,077), jumping to eighth by passing Grant Heard (2,029), J.R. Ambrose (2,012) and Mike Wallace (1,910).

- Moore's three touchdowns gave him 14 for his career, tied with DaMarkus Lodge and DK Metcalf for ninth in program history.

- RB Snoop Conner recorded his 10th career touchdown, the fifth this season to match his total from last season.

- TE Kenny Yeboah caught three passes for 32 yards and two touchdowns.

- Yeboah recorded his 6th career touchdown reception (all this season) to tie Curtis Weathers and Wes Sullivan for seventh all-time in career TDs by an Ole Miss tight end.

- Freshman RB Henry Parrish Jr. carried the ball seven times for a career-high 51 yards, second on the team.

- The Rebels scored a touchdown on their opening drive for the third time this season, going 71 yards on 10 plays (1-yard touchdown run by Conner).

- Plumlee's 37-touchdown pass to Braylon Sanders was the first TD of the season for both Rebels.

- OL Ben Brown recorded his team-leading 30th consecutive start for the Rebels on the offensive line.

Not bad for a QB many wanted to write off after he had a bad game against Arkansas.

Re: Ole Miss offensive notes: Corral stands alone in SEC history

Corral had an NCAA QB Rating of  253.42 against Vanderbilt.  It is almost assured that he got some good coaching after his poor performance against Arkansas.  The positive changes are good.  In the past there was not a QB coach who could work with the QBs in order to improve them.
