Report: 2020 CFB Season Cancellation or Postponement Seems Inevitable

Report: 2020 CFB Season Cancellation or Postponement 'Seems Inevitable'

Presidents from the Big Ten "are ready to pull the plug on its fall sports season," according to a report from ESPN. Were that to happen, it could have a domino effect on the other Power Five conferences.

"Several sources have told ESPN over the last 48 hours that the postponement or cancellation of the football season seems inevitable," the report said. "Many of those sources believed that it ultimately will take a Power Five conference to move things in that direction, and that either the Big Ten or Pac-12 would probably be the first league to do it."

Sports Illustrated's Pat Forde echoed the report:

Sources: Attempts to salvage the fall 2020 college football season are all but over. “It’s gotten to a critical stage," one told SI. "I think all of us will be meeting with our boards in the coming days. We have work to do that is no fun.”

The Big Ten, ACC, Big 12, SEC and Pac-12 have all made changes to their 2020 football schedules to account for the COVID-19 pandemic, either limiting the number of nonconference games or eliminating them entirely.

However, many wondered if conference commissioners could still forestall more drastic steps with little progress made in mitigating the spread of the coronavirus across the United States.

That discussion reached a fever pitch after the Mid-American Conference postponed all of its fall sports, including football. The MAC was potentially the proverbial canary in the coal mine.

Forde and Ross Dellenger reported for Sports Illustrated on Aug. 1 that Power Five conference leaders "have begun exploring the possibility of staging their own championships" in the event the NCAA issued a blanket suspension or cancellation of fall sports.

That kind of plan would be all but impossible, though, if one of the five wiped out a 2020 fall football season, which is to say nothing of the logistical hurdles of making that concept a reality.

Spring football would be better than no football at all, but a postponement could lead to more players opting out to focus on the 2021 NFL draft. A spring season would almost certainly overlap with next year's draft or run close enough so as to limit how much prospective prospects could work out and meet with teams.

A handful of notable stars already signaled their desire to prepare for the draft, and that list will likely grow if what "seems inevitable" comes to pass.

SEC seems to be going forward and may invite other schools to join in.

If you buy covid 19 you don't have football, if you don't (or love money too much some would say) then you do. What to do what to do!

The latest data is showing signs that 80-90% of people having a natural immunity to COVID (just like with SARS and MERS) based on t-cell immunity. Covid-19 is about to be in our rearview mirror.

Also, Dr. Atlas replaced Fauci on the coronavirus task force and he is a proponent of the Sweden method and not the baseless fear mongering that is happening by Fauci.

It will all be over in November, unless Trump wins.

My physician told me at my physical that many have had it and didn't really know it, that it affects different folks in different ways. A married couple of friends late 70's got it and said it was like a mild cold for 4-6 days.

I guess it'll be over in November, because there's no way in hell Trump "1918 pandemic ended WWII" gets reelected. I won't vote for him nor for Biden, but it's gonna be an absolute blowout.

I will be walking over molten glass to vote for Trump/Pence.  If we take the snapshots of words that people who talk all day long, there will be no one left to listen to.  Corona will die off after Nov and a new wave of disasters will take over the media narrative.

Trump is not perfect, but if life revolves around the president, then we have already failed as a nation.  The democrat party is going further left and those who through to be 1 term extremists have won their primaries and other extremists have picked up nominations across the nation.

Re: Report: 2020 CFB Season Cancellation or Postponement Seems Inevitable

I have lived in my house for 17 years.  Built it new in a subdivision.   Until the last few years, every year my grass dies because the crap soil and excess rock the builder Left scorches the grass once he gets over 85°. Last few years, my two maple trees in the front yard is finally getting big enough to where it shades my yard fairly well and by the end of the summer I have some grass to salvage.

My yard reminds me of the parable about wheat thrown on rocky soil.  Sprouts quick and wilts under the heat.
