Re: Well, the politically correct

Meridian, I had completely forgotten about that.   But now that you jogged my memory, I think I liked those cups too.   Getting old is tough.  lol

Ellis I actually kind of like that name - Ole Miss Express.  Kind of has a nice ring to me.  Maybe have a train, guy dressed as an engineer, etc. that kids would like.

Anything other than stupid alien shark costume. As my kids say, that thing is just creepy.

This is assuming Rebels is gone, which is above my pay grade to control.

The school could really use it to their advantage. Build a train like the Purdue Boilermakers. Give it an ole miss Express paint job, and there you go.

Remember during Eli's senior year, we had the stadium cups that had "Rebel Express" with a train on them?

You're right, they sure did.

Re: Well, the politically correct

There was a train named the Rebel Express in the last quarter century of the 19th century.  It operated on the line that was built by William Clark Falkner, great grandfather of William Faulkner.  Add express to Rebels and you've changed from a civil war type mascot to a train -- Falkner's line  ran from Middleton TN to Ripley ... and from there, you could get to Jackson.  I wonder why the people in Oxford can't think of something so apparent ... I couldn't find the actual train, but this is close ....  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rebel_postcard.JPG

You got me Colonel. Ive emailed the AD and Chancellor and told them the same thing but didn't get a reply. I guess they're waiting for BLM to come in and change it for them.

Give me a break!  Cave in all the way...   yes, let's be the "conductors".  We can have a jolly little man, sorta like Santa Clause in a train engine with a bear shoveling coal and in a passenger car we can have all the passengers with their thumb stuck in their forehead yelling fin's up!  The kids will love it

If you have any brighter ideas please share them. Im not in love with the Train idea, just trying to find a logical way to keep the name OLE MISS. Thats it!

"Rebels" is toast due to stupidity from our admin years ago.

Re: Well, the politically correct

We have allowed our administration to take away so many of our traditions.  No. I don't have any "bright ideas", but I am sick and tired of the PC whiners getting their way in regards to names and identity.  We are the Ole Miss Rebels and if students, instructors, or anyone else doesn't like that or can't deal with it, they should find another place to be.  It was that way when they came here,  It should be that way when they leave.  That includes athletes...
