That said, Ole Miss should have its collective ass kicked for handling of the names.  Khayat came out 15 years ago and said Ole Miss was slave and plantation related.   Dumb!We had an opportunity to re-brand Rebels ... to associate it with the Revolutionary War or anything other than slavery.  We didn't.  Same for Ole MIss -- it's tied to other things than the slavery but you never hear that.  I predict within a year, if not sooner, we'll be looking for a new name which will probably be Sharks or Landsharks.  

I mentioned something similar the other day about the admin dropping the ball and not going with a Revolutionary Soldier. I also remember you suggesting that as well when the whole thing was going down.

Khayat saying that Col Reb was a "cartoon plantation owner" was such a horrible, dumb, short sighted statement.

Best thing the PR department can do now is to do everything they can to tie "Ole Miss" term to either the train it the river. If they are reactionary instead of protective, then they're screwed.

I think "Rebels" is gonna be gone simply due to the stupidity of our admin when Col Reb got the axe. Or, go ahead and do the rebranding now to the Revolutionary Soldier and keep the Rebels nickname. Sitting on their asses, however, isn't the solution.

To keep the name Ole Miss , they would have to sacrifice the name Rebel , and tie it to the train and call them something like the Ole Miss Express. It would had been ok with the revolutionary soldier until Kayat said what he said. Thats just my opinion.

If we have to drop Rebels, then what do we go to? Back to The Flood?

I think there will be a compromise to keep Ole Miss and drop Rebels. Unless the school is as progressive as i think they are and just voluntarily drop both.

The school could really use it to their advantage. Build a train like the Purdue Boilermakers. Give it an ole miss Express paint job, and there you go.
