VIDEO: Eli Acker senior season highlights
Eli Acker has a little extra time on his hands for some hunting and fishing these days with the coronavirus outbreak shutting down schools across the state of Mississippi and the nation.
Acker, who signed with Ole Miss last December as part of the Rebels' 2020 recruiting class, is also doing what he can to be at his maximum readiness when he reports to Oxford in a few months.
"It's definitely tough to realize that all of this is going on," Acker said. "I talked to my grandparents who are 80 years old, and they said in their lifetimes they've never seen something like this with everything shut down. It's been definitely tough to put my mind around everything and all that's happened over the last week."
Acker was rated as the nation's No. 34 offensive tackle by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite index in the 2020 class. He was the No. 9 overall prospect in the state of Mississippi. He signed with Ole Miss over reported offers from Mississippi State, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Miami, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Southern Miss.

The 6-6 Acker reports his weight is fluctuating between 275 and 280 pounds this spring.
Acker, who played football and basketball, is finished with his high school sports career, so his sole focus is on preparing to report to Ole Miss.
"I've just been working out, and right now, I've just kind of been staying away from people," he shared. "My mom, she works at a gym, and they're shut down but she let's me go up there and work out when I need to, so there's not too many people around."
Acker has also been staying in consistent contact with the Ole Miss football program.
"I talk to (offensive line) Coach (Randy) Clements a good bit. I've just talked to him about what he thought was going to happen and how he thought this would all end. We just text back and forth a lot," Acker said.
What are Acker's expectations for himself in his first season as a Rebel?
"I feel like I can handle it. I've got everything I need to get to that point. I feel like I'll be ready," said Acker.
247Sports Evaluation of Eli Acker: Lean, muscular offensive line prospect that has a tight end body type as a high schooler but the frame to add bulk and lean mass on the next level. Very rare athletically in offensive line context with outstanding combine numbers and the ability to line up at offensive tackle, defensive end, defensive tackle and punter in high school. Also has basketball background. Can really run downfield. Has good feet with the ability to backpedal and avoid cut blocks on defense. Doesn't have a lot of technique on offense and has struggled in pass protection in camp settings but has the traits to be really good in that area. Shows some finishing mentality but could be more physical with his punch and hands. Power five starter that will take some time to develop but significant upside points to NFL Draft ceiling if everything hits. (Barton Simmons)
