I don't want Freeze back but he took us to levels we haven't been to in my lifetime.  He did it without being a cheater.  I mean that in the sense that, yes, we cheated some but not on the same level as many in the SEC. Our cheating was mainly status quo with what goes on around the nation.  After a 5 year investigation, we don't have any concrete proof of pay for play other than a very suspicious and shaky testimony of Leo Lewis. 

His downfall was being a sleezy person.  He got so enamored with himself that he made some very questionable decisions in staff and in his personal life.  He missed on some recruits at position of need but not sure I chalk that up as poor decision making on his part or bad luck.  Likely some of both.  His personal decisions caused us to tank last year bc he was so preoccupied with his poor personal decisions.  And his decisions in hiring and not firing staff are hurting us more than actual talent IMO.  Yes, it is freezes fault, but I still think things are very different for him and us without the NCAA witch hunt

I agree OneStop.  This is all on Freeze and we wouldn't be any better with him still here.  You can argue we might be worse because the NCAA drumbeats would still be banging.  It was a perfect time to part ways with him.  This shitstorm was coming either way.  Most of us saw it coming a couple of seasons ago much like the second half of the Cotton Bowl with Eli and the Cotton Bowl with Jevan.  You could just see the wheels wobbling and the road ahead was a bridge out.
