Breein Tyree just dropped 40 points in his last game against Mississippi State in Oxford.

It was an absolutely masterful performance for the senior guard who is in the top ten of career scorers in Ole Miss basketball history. The Rebels (13-11, 4-7 SEC) topped the Bulldogs, 83-58, to win its third-straight game and third straight in SEC play.

The Cup preview earlier today assumed Reggie Perry would have a big night, which he did scoring 24 points. Perry scored 24 points in the whole game, and Tyree scored 27 points in the second half. Let that soak in for a few minutes.

It was a little scary early on as Tyree got two fairly early fouls, but then he did something really smart and just didn’t foul again. Good idea in our humble opinion.

Ole Miss' Breein Tyree finished with 40 points tonight. Tyree scored 27 of his 40 in the 2nd half and outscored Mississippi State by himself in that span (24 pts).

Tyree is the 1st @OleMissMBB player with 40 points in a game since Deandre Burnett on Nov. 18, 2016 (41).

In the early going, MSU doubled up Ole Miss 26-13, and it’s likely many fans headed to the Coors Light refreshment centers to help ease the pain that was unfolding in front of them. Ole Miss went on to outscore MSU 70-32 after that - another good strategy we should employ every game. Just absolute dominance for about 25 straight minutes of basketball.

The 40-point night for Tyree was his new career high, and the guard out of Somerset, N.J. is averaging 33.7 points per game during this three-game win streak.

It can’t be understated that Khadim Sy also had one of his best games of the season as well when it was needed most. Sy dropped 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 29 minutes of play before fouling out. The big man transfer has been hit or miss this season, but lately he is on a tear against good competition.

Ole Miss’ next game is against No. 12 Kentucky in Lexington. Suddenly, this team is playing some great basketball and riding a wave of momentum.

Let’s hope it lasts just a little bit longer.

This team has been playing great the last 3 games. Gotta keep it up. Always great to destroy State and Howland.
