Ole Miss Football: Top 3 targets for 2020 National Signing Day

Ole Miss Football: Top 3 targets for 2020 National Signing Day

Ole Miss football is looking to turn around in 2020 and that’ll start with an impressive first recruiting class under Lane Kiffin.

The Lane Train has arrived at the station and that means Oxford just got a lot more exciting heading into the 2020 season.

Ole Miss hired Lane Kiffin to replace Matt Luke after just a few seasons and he has the tough task of turning a program around in the loaded SEC. Even more difficult, he has to recruit and coach against Mike Leach now who took the job at Mississippi State. The Egg Bowl just got a lot more interesting.

With National Signing Day coming up, the Rebels still have some big names left on the board to help the 2020 class and Kiffin can get off to a red-hot start.

Who are the top remaining targets for the Rebels for National Signing Day?

3. HENRY PARRISH
4-star RB Miami, Fla.
Ole Miss Rebels

Scottie Phillips didn’t quite have the season he would have hoped for, rushing for just over 500 yards a year after nearly reaching 1,000. He finished third on the team behind Jerrion Ealy and John Rhys Plumlee and now he’s graduating, leaving a vacant spot in the running back rotation. Who will complement Ealy in 2020?

Will the Rebels be able to land one of the top uncommitted running backs in the class in Henry Parrish on National Signing Day?

Parrish is ranked the No. 301 overall recruit and 24th-best running back in the 2020 class, per 247Sports. The Miami-native is considering Oregon and South Carolina as well but a visit to Oxford on Jan. 31 could be perfect for the Rebels considering it’s the last visit before signing day.

Although he’s not the fastest back, he can be quite elusive and makes defenders miss. He’s tough to bring down.

2. DEMON CLOWNEY
4-star DE Baltimore, Md.
Ole Miss Rebels

Before you ask, yes Demon Clowney is related to Jadeveon. He’s the cousin of the Seattle Seahawks’ star defensive end and was in sixth grade when the famous “The Hit” happened in the Outback Bowl versus Michigan.

Now, he’s a beast himself, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 225 pounds from Baltimore, Md. He is looking at a few schools from the ACC as well as Ole Miss.

It looks like the Rebels are the favorites to land the four-star defensive end but they’ll have to fight this battle against Miami, Virginia and Louisville. Georgia was considered a contender at one point, but if Clowney is to go to the SEC, Ole Miss is the most likely destination.

Clowney is ranked the No. 135 overall player and eighth-best weak-side defensive end in the class and he has the potential to be a star at the next level.

Watching his tape, it’s clear he has a good burst off the snap and finds holes in the offensive line and fires through them. He’s a strong tackler and he stays low. He would be a perfect addition for the Rebels, especially with that defense needing massive improvements.

1. ZACHARY EVANS
5-star RB Houston, Texas
Ole Miss Rebels

If this name sounds familiar, it’s because Zachary Evans was committed to Georgia not too long ago as the No. 1 running back in the 2020 class.

The five-star running back recently re-opened his recruitment and that has cracked the door for programs like Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Florida to take a crack at him. He was off the board not long ago, but now that he’s back on the market, he’s the hottest running back commodity out there.

The Houston, Texas, native is ranked the No. 14 player in the class as well as the best player from the loaded Lone Star State, per 247Sports.

The recent trend for Evans has been toward Ole Miss although Texas A&M is a serious contender here. The Rebels just offered him and he took a visit to Oxford this weekend which makes him a serious target for Lane Kiffin and arguably the top guy left on his board.

Will the Rebels land one of the best players in the entire 2020 class to kick off the Kiffin era in Oxford? Don’t be surprised if he pulls this recruiting win off.
