Recruiting Numbers for Past 8 Seasons

For 2020 can Ole Miss make up for some of the under 25 per year recruits?   It looks like the 2019 class was over by 6, but 2018 was under by 4, and 2017 was under by 5.  That leaves under by 9 with over by 6 in 2019.  So does that yield 3 extra slots for 2020 or future classes?

2019 - 31
2018 - 21
2017 - 20
2016 - 25
2015 - 21
2014 - 26
2013 - 27
2012 - 18

Re: Recruiting Numbers for Past 8 Seasons

I think it boils down to the 85 scholarships.

Re: Recruiting Numbers for Past 8 Seasons

From what I understand, you could count someone back to the year they would have been recruited, if needed.  You can also sandbag for a couple of years and then add them to the current year.  I do not know how many years you can go back or what is the statute of limitations on the number.

You can only have 85 players on scholarship, but there are ways around that like using other than athletic scholarships, financial aid, grey shirt players, players having their way paid by their family, etc.  So 85 is the number of true academic scholarships, but there are other ways to have tuition paid than athletic scholarships.

Now this information may be totally incorrect or partially incorrect, but this is information that has been given to me in the past by coaches, players, and other athletic people in the know.  It can become complex and loopholes can be found.  Maybe someone that knows more about this can elaborate.

Of course if you are LSU, you have embezzlers, money launderers, counterfeiters, and Odel Beckham, Jr. to provide the funds needed to have your tuition paid, in addition to having protection provided by the head of the NCAA.

Don't think Grey shirts can play or golfers or the Mannings can't pay for Arch.
