Ole Miss will bring in a 2020 offensive lineman for an official visit this weekend who recently played in the High School All-American Game (former Army game).
Brady Ward confirmed to the Ole Miss Spirit on Thursday that he, his parents and sister will arrive in Oxford sometime Friday evening to begin a 48-hour stay. The 6-7, 310-pound Ward is a three-star prospect rated as the nation's No. 45 offensive tackle by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite index.
While Ward is a new name to surface as a major target for Lane Kiffin's coaching staff, he has visited Oxford before. He took an unofficial visit to Ole Miss in late March of 2018.
Ole Miss offensive line coach Randy Clements is Ward's primary recruiter for the Rebels.
Ward also plans to take official visits to Mississippi State on the weekend of Jan. 24, and to Oklahoma on the weekend of Jan. 31. He took an official visit to Arkansas a few months ago before then head coach Chad Morris was fired.
Ward was scheduled to take an official visit to Miami this weekend but has canceled that trip.
"Ole Miss has been evaluating me for a while and they asked me to come up for an official visit. I was going to (visit) Miami, but they have a new coach, and they haven't really gotten a look at me. So I decided to take the official to Ole Miss this weekend," said Ward.
While it appears Ward is down to Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Oklahoma, he owns an impressive offer sheet. At different points of his recruitment, he collected offers Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, Florida State, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis, Miami, Missouri, North Carolina, Oregon, Rutgers, South Alabama, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Florida.
Ward offered his thoughts on Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.
"I know he's a really good coach. He did great at his last school. I know he's going to be a good coach for Ole Miss," said Ward.
Ward believes his player host this weekend will be rising sophomore defensive back A.J. Finley. He and Finley are former high school teammates, as both are out of St. Paul's Episcopal in Mobile, Ala.
Ward's father, Brian Ward, was an offensive lineman at LSU in the mid 1990s. The Tigers, however, seem to be out of his recruiting picture at this time.
What is Ward looking for on his official visit to Ole Miss?
"To be able to connect with the coaches," he said. "To get to know them."
The Spirit Says...
With the transfer of veteran offensive tackle Bryce Mathews last month and the uncertainty of the health of 2019 tackle signee Darius Thomas, Ole Miss could use another offensive tackle in its 2020 class. The Rebels have certainly identified a potential fit in Brady Ward. With his visits remaining to Mississippi State and Oklahoma, we would be surprised if he ended things this weekend.
